Neil Morrice provides us with his best bets and tips for Friday’s racing at Newbury, Nottingham, Thirsk and Newmarket on 12/08/2022.
NEWBURY – 12/08/2022
Race 2 No10 LEADMAN
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: David Probert
Kingman colt LEADMAN made a taking impression when chasing home Epictetus on his debut on the July course, and if making normal progress this well related individual has strong claims to open his account.
Race 4 No11 UNION COURT
Trainer: Ed Walker – Jockey: Saffie Osborne
UNION COURT chased the shadow of clear cut scorer The Platinum Queen at Goodwood, whilst beating the rest of the field fair and square. Her form includes a six lengths defeat by Little Big Bear in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot, and she has every right to claim a cheque on this first venture into Listed company.
Race 5 No6 MISS ATTITUDE (Nap)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Charles Bishop
Four of the six that contest the nursery are divided by a band of just 2lb, but MISS ATTITUDE nevertheless gets weight from all but one of them and needs serious consideration after her gate to wire success at Sandown two weeks ago. She has as much natural speed as I’ve seen in a filly in recent years, and should again be able to control affairs from the front on this first run in a handicap.
NOTTINGHAM – 12/08/2022
Race 1 No7 MISS GALLAGHER
Trainer: William Jarvis – Jockey: Jim Crowley
Dark Angel filly MISS GALLAGHER showed good natural speed before fading in what looked a hot maiden at Yarmouth last week. While her connections will be aware she is running for a mark on this third career outing, she might well produce an earning run in these much calmer waters.
Race 6 No3 TERRA MITICA (Nap)
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Ryan Moore
TERRA MITICA looked to score with something up her sleeve at Salisbury and has definitely found her niche in the handicap arena. While this is a stronger race, she has Moore back for the first time since she opened her account at Chelmsford, and can make it a third success from her last four outings.
WOLVERHAMPTON
Race 4 No4 INFINITIVE (Nap)
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Richard Kingscote
By sought after sire Ulysses out of a Group 1 winner who Stoute trained, INFINITIVE can gain an important first triumph on only her second start. She was weak in the market when chasing home Sous Les Etpiles at Salisbury, and while that form has taken a knock her work is much improved now than earlier in the summer.
THIRSK – 12/08/2022
Race 1 No11 FROG AND TOAD (Each Way)
Trainer: David O’Meara – Jockey: Danny Tudhope
FROG AND TOAD has experienced mixed fortunes since gaining a dramatic last gasp victory over course and distance back in the spring. His trainer persists with the cheek pieces that were fitted for his latest run, and with a jockey who knows him in the plate he can get into the argument.
Race 2 No4 SMEATON’S LIGHT (Nap)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Ben Curtis
SMEATON’S LIGHT gets man of the moment Curtis to do the steering at a track where the gelding broke his maiden in 2021. He should have finished third at Brighton after showing impressive all round pace last week, and can show with an overdue first win of the season that he was unlucky.
Race 4 No2 CAPTAIN WINTERS
Trainer: Kevin Ryan – Jockey: Kevin Stott
Lope De Vega colt CAPTAIN WINTERS troubled the judge in successive visits to Haydock in June. That happened in soft ground, and the selection needs to show he can act on this faster terrain in order to go one better than last time.
Race 5 No6 INSTALLATION
Trainer: Richard Fahey – Jockey: Oisin Orr
INSTALLATION made an eye taking first venture onto the track when third in a York maiden in June. In the colours of stable star Perfect Power he can progress to open his account.
NEWMARKET – 12/08/2022
Race 2 No6 BEAUTY CHOICE (Nap)
Trainer: William Jarvis – Jockey: William Buick
The addition of first time blinkers can help propel BEAUTY CHOICE to an overdue success in this all-aged sprint. The daughter of Bated Breath has earned in each of her four starts for Jarvis, while her style of racing suggests she could appreciate being stepped back on the distance ladder.
Race 6 No2 POWER OF DARKNESS (Each Way)
Trainer: Marcus Tregoning – Jockey: Dane O’Neill
By running with the choke out POWER OF DARKNESS had nothing left at the end of his latest outing at Ascot. It followed an encouraging comeback run at Newmarket where the gelding ran into the money and looked like he was on the way back. In the hope of a more chilled display tonight, he’s a speculative advice to go well at rewarding odds.
