NEWCASTLE

Race 3 No1 GREAT STATE
Trainer: Richard Fahey – Jockey: Oisin McSweeney

GREAT STATE has the penalty picked up for his Wolverhampton win eradicated to a large degree by his apprentice rider’s claim. The gelding should know too much for his well-related stablemate Singapore Sally in a race Fahey can dominate.

Race 4 No5 FLASH BULB (Each Way)
Trainer: Katie Scott – Jockey: Sam James

FLASH BULB is a filly with few miles on her racing clock, and getting weight from her opponents. All five runners have earned in their most recent starts, the selection when beaten a long way over seven furlongs at Southwell. However that was her first outing in England since leaving Joseph O’Brien, and this massive step up in trip can see her in a better light.

Race 6 No1 KRAKEN POWER (Nap)
Trainer: Jim Goldie – Jockey: Paul Mulrennan

KRAKEN POWER has yet to score in 14 attempts for his trainer, but it’s unlikely he’ll get many better chances to stop the rot than in this weak affair. What makes me go back to him is that he’s run well in each of his last three outings, all at this track, being beaten into fifth in a blanket finish in October before placing in subsequent visits in November and this month. It does seem his race to lose.

SOUTHWELL

Race 2 No7 ATLANTIC STORM
Trainer: B Summers – Jockey: Charlie Hammond

Never out of the frame in his last eight handicap chase starts and a winner here in June, ATLANTIC STORM looks set for another big earning run. The ten-year-old can take the spoils at the main expense of recent Hexham scorer Treshnish.

Race 4 No11 HIDDEN BEAUTY (Each Way)
Trainer: Fergal O’Brien – Jockey: Paddy Brennan

HIDDEN BEAUTY has frequently attracted market support since scoring on her debut under Rules at Ffos Las. She disappointed a couple of times when aimed too high, but her fourth to the smart Katrina at Uttoxeter reads well in the context of this race, and with Idealdes Villerets and Spring Note set to occupy a big chunk of the betting handle on the race she appeals as an each way bet.

Race 6 No5 SOLDIER OF DESTINY (Nap)
Trainer: Jamie Snowden – Jockey: Gavin Sheehan

SOLDIER OF DESTINY can take advantage of his novice status in this re-route to Southwell following the abandonment of Bangor on Friday. The winning chaser can put behind him a recent fall at Wetherby and at the same time enjoy a confidence boost.
