Neil Morrice provides us with his best bets and tips for Monday’s race meetings at Ayr, Ffos Las, Newton Abbot, Windsor and Wolverhampton on 11/07/2022.
AYR – 11/07/2022
Race 1 No10 PRAIRIE FALCON (Nap)
Trainer: Michael Dods – Jockey: Tom Eaves
PRAIRIE FALCON hails from a stable that’s getting its act together with its juveniles and has the advantage of two runs under his belt. The son of Belardo showed marked improvement to trouble the judge at Ayr when easy to back, and can now open his account before embarking on a nursery campaign.
Race 2 No7 SIXCOR (Each Way)
Trainer: Linda Perratt – Jockey: Harry Russell
SIXCOR has proved a regular earner since joining Perratt in the spring, winning twice over course and distance and placing in every start since opening his account. He’s dependably competitive at this basement level of the handicap spectrum, and looks poised for another big earning run.
FFOS LAS – 11/07/2022
Race 3 No4 THE TOFF (Nap)
Trainer: Charles Hills – Jockey: Kieran Shoemark
THE TOFF looks to hold the cards as he steps up to seven furlongs on the back of placed efforts on his only outings at Chepstow and Nottingham. The Dandy Man colt attracted plenty of support at Colwick Park, and is on a retrieval mission, but he went well in his winding up gallop for this, and can show those losses to be merely lent.
Race 4 No12 LARK LANE (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Cieren Fallon
LARK LANE isn’t the most obvious winner of this classified race on the book, but the Sixties Icon gelding showed a glimmer of ability on his latest start at Chepstow and can further improve for the presence of a professional jockey on his back for the first time this year.
Race 5 No3 BAZALGETTE
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Rossa Ryan
BAZALGETTE returns from an eight month absence, but the Clodovil gelding has been operated on for a wind affliction and is ready to put his best foot forward. He attracted support on each of his last two outings in 2021 and showed ability to place without winning. However, now that his breathing’s been sorted out he can open his account.
NEWTON ABBOT – 11/07/2022
Race 1 No1 FORTUNATE FRED
Trainer: Jamie Snowden – Jockey: Gavin Sheehan
FORTUNATE FRED to beat Tip Top Tonto is a likely outcome to the opening maiden hurdle. The selection wasn’t able to justify the support that came his way on his recent run at Fontwell, but it was his first for six months and might well have been needed.
Race 4 No5 SHAREEF STAR (Nap)
Trainer: Peter Bowen – Jockey: James Bowen
SHAREEF STAR should be suited by the way this race pans out as there are a couple of confirmed front runners in the field. He’s built up a consistent record of either winning or placing since having his attention turned to fences, and should be happier racing over a shorter trip on this tight circuit.
WINDSOR – 1/07/2022
Race 1 No3 CHARTWELL HOUSE (Each Way)
Trainer: William Knight – Jockey: Marco Ghiani
CHARTWELL HOUSE is opposed by a couple of others that have similar form, but as they hail from more high profile stables he should represent a value option. The son of Churchill stayed on well to claim a minor cheque here last month, and can make full use of the knowledge gained on that first run.
WOLVERHAMPTON – 11/07/2022
Race 4 No2 MAKTOOB
Trainer: David Simcock – Jockey: Jamie Spencer
From the combination that landed Saturday’s Bunbury Cup, MAKTOOB can defy a penalty and bounce back to winning ways. He posted a 20-1 shocker when scoring on debut here in April, while his defeat by Warren Point at Doncaster wasn’t devalued by that horse’s effort in a better race at Ascot on Saturday.
Race 6 No5 JACOVEC CAVERN (Nap)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: George Bass
JACOVEC CAVERN made great strides from a no show on debut to almost causing a 25-1 upset at Pontefract. The Sixties Icon gelding enjoyed stepping up to a mile and a quarter, and has worked well on the all weather at home.
