11/01/2022 – Tuesday’s Racing Tips

15/02/2023 - Wednesday's Racing Tips by Neil Morrice

Neil Morrice provides tips for Tuesday’s British race meetings at Doncaster, Exeter and Southwell on 11/01/2022.

DONCASTER – 11/01/2022

Race 3 No3 CITY CHIEF (Nap)
Trainer: Nicky Henderson – Jockey: Nico de Boinville

Henderson sends quality horses to the Town Moor and should be on the money with CITY CHIEF, who rates the best bet on the card. The five-year-old landed the spoils on his only point-to-point start in Ireland and was popular in the market on his debut under Rules at Ascot, where he chased home Party Business. If stepping up from that effort he should make no mistake here.

Race 4 No2 THE GOLDEN REBEL
Trainer: Ben Case – Jockey: Jack Andrews

Bold front-runner THE GOLDEN REBEL gained a runway hurdles success on his first run over jumps at the corresponding meeting in 2021. He now defends a two-race unbeaten record at the track, having stylishly taken out a novices’ handicap chase before Christmas. From his revised mark he needs to be taken seriously.

Race 5 No1 MORIKO DE VASSY
Trainer: Tom Symonds – Jockey: Aidan Coleman

MORIKO DE VASSY has to give 7lb to the talented Raymond Tusk, but the gelding has to be afforded abundant respect and is unlucky not to be unbeaten in bumpers and novice hurdles. The jury is out on whether he would have beaten Balco Coastal if not for falling at the last at Huntingdon in early December. He was in the process of running a massive race, and it amounts to high calibre form.

EXETER – 11/01/2022

Race 1 No8 VOYBURG
Trainer: Kim Bailey – Jockey: Jay Tidball

VOYBURG landed a similar contest here early last month before being found wanting in a stop-start race at Doncaster. He should enjoy the prevailing conditions, and from his place at the foot of the handicap can bounce back.

Race 3 No3 KISSESFORKATIE (Nap)
Trainer: Jeremy Scott – Jockey: Lorcan Williams

KISSESFORKATIE impressively opened her account for the season with a wide margin conversion at this course and distance and is back for more under a 7lb penalty. This lightly-raced individual should have more to offer, and in an action replay can go back-to-back.

Race 5 No2 RUN TO MILAN (Each Way)
Trainer: Victor Dartnall – Jockey: Alan Johns

For the first three miles of Newbury’s Mandarin Chase RUN TO MILAN enjoyed himself towards the head of affairs, and though weakening over the last two fences showed that he’s getting better with each race over fences. In deteriorating conditions back at Haldon, he can now open his account for the season.

SOUTHWELL – 11/01/2022

Race 1 No13 THE TRON
Trainer: Derek Shaw – Jockey: Morgan Cole

Low numbers have enjoyed a considerable advantage on the 1000 metres track since the course was reopened with a new Tapeta surface. This augurs well for TRON, who breaks from stall 1 following a series of earning runs in defeat. The grey was foiled in a driving finish by Papas Girl last month, and can go one better.

Race 5 No8 TWISTALINE (Nap)
Trainer: Mike Appleby – Jockey: Jason Watson

With cheek pieces removed, TWISTALINE looked to have turned a corner when sneaking home on debut for her trainer at Lingfield last week. That first outing in almost three months can now be improved upon as she switches to Tapeta.

Race 7 No2 HARRY THREE
Trainer: Clive Cox – Jockey: Adam Kirby

HARRY THREE is quite probably the nicest horse on view at this fixture. The son of Adaay built up a good understanding with jockey Kirby in back-to-back successes at Kempton last back end and is reported to be wintering well. With dual scorer Fearless Angel in opposition this will be no cakewalk for the selection, but he goes to post with plenty of stable confidence behind him.
