Neil Morrice provides his best bets and tips for Newmarket, York, Chepstow and Newcastle.

NEWMARKET – 08/10/2021

Race 3 Godolphin Lifetime Care Oh So Sharp Stakes (Group 3)
No5 GOOD AMERICAN
Trainer: Ralph Beckett – Jockey: Frankie Dettori

American Pharoah filly GOOD AMERICAN blitzed her foes on debut at Salisbury, showing little signs of inexperience and leading throughout to come home unchallenged. She needs to step up in order to remain unbeaten, but has given her astute trainer all the right signals at home. Yorkshire raider Gifted Gold has a similar profile, and should be included in all exotics as a lively outsider.

Race 4 Godolphin Stud & Stable Staff Awards Challenge Stakes (Group 2)
No1 AL SUHAIL
Trainer: Charlie Appleby – Jockey: William Buick

AL SUHAIL was unable to maintain his challenge when third in a Listed race at Newbury, having previously taken out a Group 3 at Haydock. Part of an Appleby entry, he can prove too strong for stablemate D’Bai in a race that could be run to suit him. Greenham winner Chindit has another Pattern race in his compass, and is a must include in exactas and trifectas.

Race 5 BET365 FILLIES’ MILE (Group 1)
No9 WILD BEAUTY (Each Way)
Trainer: Charlie Appleby – Jockey: William Buick

Frankel filly WILD BEAUTY displayed a smart turn of foot to put a Stakes race to bed at Woodbine and stands out as the value option to paper favourite Inspiral in this fascinating Day1 feature. She needs to turn round a heavy defeat at the hands of the last-named filly from Sandown in July, but has probably improved by an above average amount. Her connections could still point her at the Breeders’ Cup in Del Mar early next month, and I fancy her to shake up her main foe.

Race 7 Newmarket Pony Academy Pride Stakes (Group 3)
No15 VILLE DE GRACE
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Richard Kingscote

VILLE DE GRACE completely dominated the Sir John Musker Stakes at Yarmouth, taking control early in the home straight to take out that Listed race by a wide margin. Looking a picture, she has kept her condition and can again excel over the mile and a quarter trip, with stablemate Lights On capable of getting into the money, and Lilac Road another to include in all exotics.

YORK – 08/10/2021

Race 1 No12 BAY BREEZE (Each Way)
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: Jimmy Quinn

BAY BREEZE has his tail up after smoothly opening his account and landing some good bets at Beverley. He achieved that in a return to maiden company, but has earned in each of his three outings in nurseries. He should prove a danger to all from his place at the foot of the weights.

Race 2 No1 BOND CHAIRMAN (Nap)
Trainer: Bryan Smart – Jockey: Graham Lee

This can go to the penalised BOND CHAIRMAN, whose first foray into a Group race saw him beaten leads than four lengths in the Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster. The Kodiac colt is back in novice company for the first time since his winning debut.

Race 4 No10 SURREY GOLD (Each Way)
Trainer: Hughie Morrison – Jockey: Sean Levey

Although unable to build on a wide margin Newbury triumph in May, SURREY GOLD has shown glimpses of that ability, and can now raise his game assisted by a move up the distance ladder.

CHEPSTOW – 08/10/2021

Race 3 No4 SIR IVAN (Nap)
Trainer: Harry Fry – Jockey: Lorcan Murtagh

There are few better jumpers in training than SIR IVAN, who though returning from a five month absence has shown he operates well from a break in the recent past. With front runner Indy Five in the field the race should be run to suit the selection, who is one to follow in veterans’ chases through the season.

Race 4 No1 CAMPROND (Each Way)
Trainer: Philip Hobbs – Jockey: Aidan Coleman

The Grade 2 novices’ hurdle that remembers Persian War is a fascinating affair, and easily the best race of the jumps season so far. Paso Doble and First Street need respecting, but a more solid entity is CAMPROND, who brings solid handicap form to the table, especially his effort to chase home Copperless in the Swindon Hurdle in May. He might have just needed his first run of the current campaign when beaten by Percy’s Word at Stratford, and can now raise his game.

NEWCASTLE – 08/10/2021

Race 5 No9 THRAVE (Each Way)
Trainer: Mike Appleby – Jockey: Erika Parkinson

THRAVE was an impressive winner of an apprentices’ race here last week and seeks a quick follow-up under the same pilot. Having previously finished placed in the Legends Race at Doncaster, the mercurial gelding is starting to regain his early career form, and could still be well handicapped.
