07/10/2022 – Friday’s Racing Tips

07/10/2022 - Friday's Racing Tips by Neil Morrice

Neil Morrice gives us his best bets and tips for Friday’s British meetings at Newmarket, Chepstow, York and Newcastle on 07/10/2022.

NEWMARKET – 07/10/2022

Race 1 – Newmarket Academy Godolphin Beacon Project Cornwallis Stakes (Group 3): MISS ATTITUDE
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: William Buick

MISS ATTITUDE is carded to start amongst the roughies for this sizzling sprint, but should not be underestimated.

The Sandown and Newbury winner finished just out of the money in the Firth Of Clyde Stakes and can better her effort in that Listed contest. She flew in her winding up breeze for this on Tuesday and is more mentally focussed and stronger.

Race 2 – Godolphin Lifetime Care Oh So Sharp Stakes (Group 3): LOSE YOURSELF
Trainer: Ralph Beckett – Jockey: Rossa Ryan

A race certain to throw up a candidate for next year’s 1,000 Guineas can fall to LOSE YOURSELF. The daughter of Lope De Vega greatly impressed on her debut over course and distance, stretching clear and demonstrating that soft ground holds no perils for her.

She faces strong competition from unbeaten Crystallium but can by delivering preserve her own unbeaten record.

Race 3 – Thoroughbred Industry Employee AAwards Challenge Stakes (Group 2): SACRED (Nap)
Trainer: William Haggas – Jockey: Tom Marquand

SACRED returned to near her scintillating best when blitzing her foes in a Listed race at Newbury.

Last season’s Hungerford Stakes winner clearly loves that Berkshire track, but she’s also effective on the Rowley course, as her success in last season’s Nell Gwyn Stakes bears out. If turning out in the same mood as for her latest start she will be very hard to beat.

Race 4 – FILLIES’ MILE (Group 1): COMMISSIONING
Trainer: John Gosden – Jockey: Rab Havlin

This looks a substandard renewal of what is usually the best Guineas trial.

It gives COMMISSIONING a great chance to complete a hat-trick and to back up her dominating triumph in the Rockfel Stakes here two weeks ago. She’s reported to have taken those 3xertions in her stride, and should have too many guns for multiple scorer Polly Pott.

Race 8 – Newmarket Pony Academy Pride Stakes (Group 3): VILLE DE GRACE
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Ryan Moore

VILLE DE GRACE is unfortunate not to have run more than three times this year, as an aversion to the stalls cost her Group 1 opportunities at Goodwood and Deauville.

She was better behaved before a Listed race at Yarmouth, but after being positively ridden lacked her trademark finishing kick and finished third to Shaara. Winner of the corresponding race in 2021, she is strongly fancied to make it back-to-back victories.

YORK – 07/10/2022

Race 3: LEGEND OF XANADU (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Connor Beasley

LEGEND OF XANADU didn’t enjoy the rub of the green on his previous visit here for a six furlongs nursery.

After disappointing in a race at Doncaster he made a good fist of leading throughout at Salisbury. For a speedy individual he moves up to seven furlongs with questions to answer, but with the visor he wore last week removed he can ruffle a few feathers.

Race 5: MATTICE (Each Way)
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: David Allan

MATTICE has taken away a cheque on three of his five starts on the Knavesmire. He finished fourth to Catch Cunningham last month before putting in an even better effort to place behind Danzan in the Bronze Cup at Ayr. His trainer can be mob-handed in sprint handicaps here, but on this occasion he’s the pick of just two acceptors.

Race 6: HOBSON POINT (Nap)
Trainer: Karl Burke – Jockey: Danny Tudhope

Oasis Dream colt HOBSON POINT found only the more experienced Quantum Impact his superior here last month when looking as if the race would do him good. Sure to be more streetwise, he can thwart the equally well-regarded Almaty Star and much-vaunted newcomer Nwaira.

CHEPSTOW – 07/10/2022

Race 3: QUID PRO QUO (Nap)
Trainer: Dan Skelton – Jockey: Harry Skelton

At the best National Hunt fixture run so far this season, the horse I’m most looking forward to is QUID PRO QUO. He came back from a breathing operation to hack up at Warwick before cantering home at Newton Abbot. There’s no telling how good he is, but in this Grade 2 feature we will surely learn more.

Race 4: COLLECTORS ITEM
Trainer: Jonjo O’Neill – Jockey: Jonjo O’Neill Jr

Narrowly denied in a Newbury bumper on his only outing under Rules, COLLECTORS ITEM has summered well and following some encouraging work at Jackdaw’s Castle is fully primed for this switch to hurdles in which he can thwart Hugo’s New Horse.

Race 7: MANOFTHEPEOPLE
Trainer: Fergal O’Brien – Jockey: Jack Hogan

MANOFTHEPEOPLE improved from race to race in his first season with O’Brien, rounding off with handicap hurdle successes at Huntingdon and Doncaster. I fancy him to continue his progression on this first start in more than 200 days, and add the clinching leg of a fine hat-trick.

NEWCASTLE – 07/10/2022

Race 3: EDITH RIGBY
Trainer: John Gosden – Jockey: Benoit De La Sayette

There was support for EDITH RIGBY ahead of her first run at Newmarket in which she finished fifth to Vermillion. It shaped like a warm maiden and granted normal progress this well related daughter is Showcasing can now open her account.

Race 4: NIGWA (Nap)
Trainer: Ed Bethell – Jockey: PJ McDonald

Sae The Stars filly NIGWA brings an upwardly mobile profile to the table after opening her account as a well backed favourite at Ripon. The form was boosted by the subsequent success of runner-up Marhaba The Champ, and she makes plenty of appeal getting 7lb from top weight Wild Lion.
