07/09/2022 - Wednesday's Racing Tips by Neil Morrice

07/09/2022 – Neil Morrice gives us his best bets and tips for Wednesday’s British meetings with Day 1 of the St Leger meeting at Doncaster getting underway.

DONCASTER – 07/09/2022

Race 4 – Japan Racing Association Sceptre Fillies’ Stakes (Group 3): NOVEMBA (Nap)
Trainer: Pieter Schiergen – Jockey: Aauyrzhan Murzabayev

Conditions have come just right for German-based filly NOVEMBA to put her best foot forward in the day’s feature.

The daughter of Gleneagles ran a cracker in an Ascot Group 3 in late July where she dominated before being reeled-in at the distance. But crucially she completely missed the start, and had to use up energy to get the the front.

It was nevertheless a most creditable effort from NOVEMBA, whose best form in Germany and France has happened with the give in the ground she will experience on Town Moor.

Race 5: UNION COURT (Each Way)
Trainer: Ed Walker – Jockey: Saffie Osborne

On a punter-friendly first day of the St Leger fixture UNION COURT is another enticing prospect. As a two-year-old taking on mainly older rivals in this Listed Scarborough Stakes she gets all the allowances, and receives almost two stone in weight from paper favourites Equilateral and Manaccan. Having run well in defeat in a Class2 handicap at Goodwood and a Listed prize at Newbury, she can now return to winning ways.

Race 6: X J RASCAL
Trainer: George Boughey – Jockey: William Buick

X J RASCAL has been unlucky not to pick up a valuable nursery, finding one to beat him in such races at Goodwood and at this course early last month. He attracted plenty of support on each occasion and can avenge his narrow defeat here by Zabbie, with the step up to a mile sure to suit him.

Race 7: JUST FINE (Each Way)
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Ryan Moore

JUST FINE has had this contest on his radar since disappointing at Goodwood in the race won by Forest Falcon. The season hasn’t gone to plan for the Sea The Stars gelding who is owned by the Queen, but things can change, especially in a race that appears to be less competitive than his four outings so far in 2022. He is capable of better than he’s shown.

CARLISLE – 07/09/2022

Race 1: ONE OF OUR OWN (Nap)
Trainer: Rebecca Menzies – Jockey: Phil Dennis

Poet’s Word filly ONE OF OUR OWN can play the experience card in that not only has she run more times than all but one of her foes, but her latest offering resulted in her being denied by just threequarters of a length over this course and distance. Having got better with each of her four outings she’s primed to open her account.

Race 7: CHOIRMASTER (Each Way)
Trainer: Mark Johnston – Jockey: Franny Norton

Recent winner Infiniti and Ludus command respect in this stayers’ handicap, but the one capable of upsetting the applecart is CHOIRMASTER. He’s not been far away on several occasions, and has benefitted from a month’s break since his latest run at Chester.

UTTOXETER – 07/09/2022

Race 1: PETERBOROUGH
Trainer: Evan Williams – Jockey: Isabel Williams

PETERBOROUGH stepped up to the plate to gain a convincing win when returned to fences at Worcester and goes back to war with his tail up. The nine-year-old can make this a third success from only four outings over the larger obstacles in 2022.

Race 7: JUDGE EARLE (Nap)
Trainer: Peter Bowen – Jockey: Sean Bowen

JUSGE EARLE will be a skinny price to complete a hat-trick in the nightcap, but deserves to be. Four successes over fences this summer have seen him soar in the ratings, but so impressive has he been in two recent visits to Worcester that it’s hard to imaging a 7lb penalty impairing his progress.

KEMPTON PARK – 07/09/2022

Race 3: RICH RHYTHM (Nap)
Trainer: Ralph Beckett – Jockey: Hector Crouch

With just three races under his belt RICH RHYTHM is unexposed and capable of extraordinary progression on this handicap bow. He took out a Windsor novice in cosy fashion when benefitting from a return to the minimum trip. Moved up to six furlongs here, he should have the whip hand on his opponents.

Race 6: DOUBLE TIME (Each Way)
Trainer: Sir Mark Todd – Jockey: George Rooke

Another lightly-raced individual with the potential to flourish now he’s in a handicap is DOUBLE TIME. He’s earned in each of three starts and was coming back off a three month break when second at Wolverhampton. If able to overcome a wider draw one from the outer he should light up the board in one way or another.

Race 7: BAROQUE STAR (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Hollie Doyle

BAROQUE STAR has been given time to strengthen up after failing to endorse her early potential in a maiden and two handicaps. She’s a beautifully-bred daughter of Lope De Vega, and although sure to be more the finished article next year, is worth following.
