Neil Morrice provides tips for Friday’s British race meetings at Wetherby, Lingfield Park and Wolverhampton on 07/01/2022.
WETHERBY – 07/01/2022
Race 5 No7 RELKADAM (Nap)
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: Nathan Moscrop
The best bet of the day is RELKADAM, who jumped beautifully when a distant second to runaway scorer Nocte Volatus at Catterick. He was probably attempting the impossible against that handicap snip, and can add to his previous winning visit here last February.
Race 6 No6 IMPERIAL HURRICANE
Trainer: Kim Bailey – Jockey: David Bass
As the trainer’s only runner on the card, IMPERIAL HURRICANE can show his prowess on debut. The Black Sam Bellamy gelding is bred to enjoy the easy underfoot conditions, and can add give the more experienced Ceolwulf plenty to think about, especially if the market speaks favourably of him.
LINGFIELD PARK – 07/01/2022
Race 1 No5 SMITH (Nap)
Trainer: Lydia Richards – Jockey: William Carson
SMITH is the horse to beat on his hat-trick bid in this stayers’ handicap. The Dawn Approach gelding absolutely bolted up in back-to-back visits to this track in the early winter and if in similar mood can go in again off his revised mark.
Race 2 No1 PORFIN
Trainer: Phil McEntee – Jockey: Luke Catton
After giving his supporters some anxious moments, PORFIN swooped to conquer here on Tuesday, getting the job done with something up his sleeve. He’s running off a big penalty, but under a 7lb claiming apprentice is still the one to beat.
WOLVERHAMPTON – 07/01/2022
Race 2 No8 VIVE LA REINE (Each Way)
Trainer: David Simcock – Jockey: Callum Shepherd
It might pay to side with the inexperienced VIVE LA REINE in what could prove a weak novice. A market check is the best guide towards the daughter of Twilight Son, although my vibes about her from Newmarket are favourable.
Race 3 No3 IMPULSIVE ONE (Nap)
Trainer: Nicky Henderson – Jockey: Hollie Doyle
Dual purpose horse IMPULSIVE ONE will be very hard to beat on his first all-weather run, and first for his current handler. A winner of hurdles at Plumpton and Huntingdon in the autumn, he returned from a wind operation to trouble the judge in a Grade 2 at Doncaster. He looks a progressive type, and has the extra advantage of Doyle doing the steering.
Race 5 No5 FITWOOD STAR
Trainer: Roger Teal – Jockey: Cieren Fallon
FITWOOD STAR did us a favour when converting at Chelmsford in November, his first outing for more than a year. He’s subsequently followed-up over today’s course and distance, and is strongly fancied to make this a fifth success on the bounce.
Race 7 No4 THAPA VC
Trainer: Mark Rimell – Jockey: Rob Hornby
THAPA VC makes plenty of appeal granted how well he ran on second outing back from a break at Chelmsford last month. His second to Le REVEUR showed pleasing progression, and he remains a horse with few miles on the clock with scope for improvement from a good draw one off the rail.
