06/05/2022 – Friday’s Best Bets and Tip

06/05/2022

Neil Morrice outlines his best bets and tips for Friday’s British meetings at Chester, Ascot, Nottingham and Ripon on 06/05/2022.

CHESTER – 06/05/2022

Race 1 No7 BOARDMAN (Nap)
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: Jim Crowley

BOARDMAN came out from the wilderness to score tidily at Haydock. He began his 2021 spree with a success over this course and distance, and now has Crowley as an eye taking booking. He will be hard to beat.

Race 3 Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Ire-Incentive Scheme Huxley Stakes (Group 2)
No2 CERTAIN LAD
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Ben Curtis

Although carded to start the outsider of four CERTAIN LAD should have the race run to suit. Solid Stone and Majestic Dawn both like to get on with it, and if doing too much in front could set things up for an upset. The selection has it to find on the book, but on a first outing for 18 months returns in good order.

Race 4 Tote+ Chester Cup Handicap
No1 FALCON EIGHT
Trainer: Dermot Weld – Jockey: Frankie Dettori

With ante post favourite Metier a late defector the most famous race run at Chester has cut up favourably for last year’s winner FALCON EIGHT. The seven-year-old is only 2lb higher than for his fine triumph and has Dettori back in the plate. Master trainer Weld has targeted him at this one race and he can outclass his foes, of whom COLTRANE, CLEVELAND and SOLENT GETAWAY are the ones I fancy to fill the placings.

ASCOT – 06/05/2022

Race 3 No8 SPYFALL (Nap)
Trainer: David Menuisier – Jockey: Rossa Ryan

SPYFALL looked a winner waiting to happen when chasing h9me Oaks prospect Life Of Dreams at Newbury. The Iffraaj filly will relish the task that awaits her today. She’s learned much from that introduction and can outpoint Wonderful Times.

Race 7 No12 CUMULONIMBUS (Each Way)
Trainer: Charlie Fellowes – Jockey: David Egan

Although one of the least experienced in this competitive nightcap, CUMULONIMBUS is one to take seriously. The Night Of Thunder colt had too much to do on his return to action at Nottingham and then found himself in a red hot maiden at Newbury. On neither occasion was he disgraced, while the outings served the purpose of obtaining him a handicap mark. It looks a workable one.

NOTTINGHAM – 06/05/2022

Race 1 No5 ONTHEBUNNY
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Darragh Keenan

ONTHEBUNNY improved from her educational first start to stay on well to claim a minor cheque at Southwell. Back on grass, the Bungle Inthejungle filly can further raise her game, and open her account.

Race 3 No4 CHIMED
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Richard Kingscote

CHIMED paid the price for cutting for home too early when returning at Windsor. The Frankel colt became lonely in front and was mugged by Maksud, with the pair well clear of the rest. He’s getting 7lb from winners Franz Strauss and West Wind Blows, and can take full advantage.

Race 5 No5 KIRILENKO
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Richard Kingscote

Ulysses filly KIRILENKO has a good draw and can endorse the promise of her two starts as a juvenile. Her trainer likes to bring his nicer filled to Colwick Park, and she’s worked with plenty of gusto ahead of her return to the fray.

Race 7 No2 INVIGILATE (Nap)
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Richard Kingscote

Stoute cannot be ignored with his team and INVIGILATE can put her best foot forward on this handicap debut. The Acclamation filly is as a sister to Expert Eye a lot to live up to, but she’s been training well ahead of this return and is a bet worth waiting for.

RIPON – 06/05/2022

Race 1 No7 FAVOURITE QUEEN
Trainer: Mark Johnston – Jockey: Joe Fanning

Many fingers were burned when FAVOURITE QUEEN fell short on her Brighton introduction. That undulating track might not have been ideal for the daughter of Massaat, who is going to be more streetwise.

Race 2 No5 ROACH POWER (Nap)
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: David Allan

ROACH POWER had a leg in every riding of Yorkshire last year, but has developed both mentally and physically through the winter. The grey is in a good place to demonstrate that he is a horse to follow in 2022.
