06/01/2022 – Thursday’s Racing Tips

Neil Morrice provides tips for Thursday’s British race meetings at Chepstow, Newcastle and Chelmsford City on 06/01/2022.

CHEPSTOW – 06/01/2022

Race 1 No3 LADY TREMAINE
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Brian Hughes

Lightly-raced LADY TREMAINE responded positively to the fitting of cheek pieces to open her account under Rules at Bangor. She enjoyed the easy conditions and can follow-up for her in form stable at the main expense of Dame Du Soir.

Race 2 No4 GIT MAKER (Each Way)
Trainer: Jamie Snowden – Jockey: Gavin Sheehan

Snowden does well with his Irish imports from the point-to-point field and GIT MAKER can add to that number by scoring on his debut under Rules. The Saddler Maker gelding earned in each of his four outings between the flags, signing off with an impressive success in a well contested maiden in May. His trainer has had plenty of time to get to know him.

Race 3 No3 DRENAGH (Nap)
Trainer: Alistair Ralph – Jockey: Nick Schofield

The go-to bet in this maiden hurdle is DRENAGH, whose form in three races since leaving Ireland has been rock solid. The Kalanisi gelding earned in back-to-back bumpers before running a stormer to get to within half a length of Chris Cool on debut over jumps at Bangor three weeks ago. If building on that fine effort, he should win.

Race 6 No3 EARLY DE LEMO
Trainer: Gary Moore – Jockey: Jamie Moore

EARLY DE LEMO went out very early when second favourite for a better race than this at Newbury. He’d previously troubled the judge in equally strong company at Sandown, and if his jumping holds up is a value alternative to Galop De Chasse, who beat moderate rivals at Lingfield and might be a false favourite.

Race 7 No10 KENNY GEORGE (Each Way)
Trainer: Sheena West – Jockey: Marc Goldstein

KENNY GEORGE needs to prove his fitness following a long lay-off, but if ready to go can get into the shake up. He knocked on the door on two of just three outings last season, and might have improved for his break.

NEWCASTLE – 06/01/2022

Race 2 No6 ROAMIN IN GLOAMIN (Nap)
Trainer: Karl Burke – Jockey: Clifford Lee

While ROAMIN In GLOAMIN went out tamely when last seen at Chelmsford, he might have paid the price for being ridden hard to overcome a wide draw. His previous effort when second at Kempton is good form to take into today’s contest, and he can bounce back as the only bet on a tricky card.

CHELMSFORD CITY – 06/01/2022

Race 3 No2 VIGNONI (Nap)
Trainer: Pat Murphy – Jockey: Tom Marquand

With a solid run on his only previous all-weather start, VIGNONI might be good enough to take out this weakly-contested heat. The gelded son of Helmet troubled the judge on debut for new connections in a juvenile hurdle at Catterick, and although starting at 20-1 showed he’s retained his ability.

Race 6 No5 KNOCKABOUT QUEEN (Each Way)
Trainer: Michael Herrington – Jockey: David Probert

KNOCKABOUT QUEEN was not disgraced when finishing in midfield behind yesterday’s Lingfield scorer Porfin at Wolverhampton. She’s been getting closer to a first win for her trainer, and is competing from a mark off which she should soon deliver.
