Neil Morrice outlines his best bets and tips for Monday’s British meetings at Kelso, Redcar and Windsor on 04/04/2022.
KELSO – 04/04/2022
Race 1 No1 DONNY BOY (Nap)
Trainer: Nick Alexander – Jockey: Conor O’Farrell
DONNY BOY should outclass his foes in this novices’ hurdle. A point, bumper and hurdle winner, he was in the process of running a sound race when brought down in a Grade 2 contest at this course last month. Now in calmer waters, he should readily see off all challengers.
Race 5 No6 PADDY THE HORSE
Trainer: George Bewley – Jockey: Jonathon Bewley
A good run is anticipated from the consistent Ritson, but for the win PADDY THE HORSE is just preferred. The selection has few miles on his racing clock, and showed with a near miss on first run back after wind surgery that he’s on the cusp of a return to winning ways.
REDCAR – 04/04/2022
Race 2 No3 MERRY SECRET (Each Way)
Trainer: Liam Mullaney – Jockey: Phil Dennis
Confirmed pace setter MERRY SECRET has put in three good earning performances on the all-weather and is iron fit for this first run on turf since the autumn. The four-year-old is poised to take home another decent cheque, while holding good claims for the outright win.
Race 4 No7 COPPER MOUNTAIN (Nap)
Trainer: Mick Easterby – Jockey: Joanna Mason
Sir Percy filly COPPER MOUNTAIN has enjoyed a productive winter with successes at Chelmsford and Southwell. She appears to have stepped up for the fitting of cheek pieces, and along with Sweetest Company and Clodovea is amongst a select trio to have shown any worthwhile form.
Race 5 No2 BOARDMAN (Each Way)
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: David Allan
BOARDMAN contested some valuable sprint handicaps towards the back end of last season and has become a well handicapped horse. When completing a hat-trick last May he took the notable scalp of Ejtilaab, and that form line gives him strong claims of a comeback triumph if repeated.
WINDSOR – 04/04/2022
Race 3 No12 SMEATON’S LIGHT (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Charles Bishop
SMEATON’S LIGHT popped up at 16-1 when scoring on his return to action last year, showing that he operates well after a protracted absence. He ran well on two visits to this course, and if enjoying the rub of the green can get into the shake-up of an admittedly competitive affair.
Race 4 No9 ARIA ROSE (Each Way)
Trainer: Mike Murphy – Jockey: Daniel Muscutt
ARIA ROSE has looked badly in need of each of two starts on the all-weather this year. He’s an equally good operator on turf, and is ready to raise his game with an earning run.
Race 7 No7 MISS MESSENGER (Each Way)
Trainer: Brian O’Rourke – Jockey: Ray Dawson
MISS MESSENGER has earned in all three starts that have preceded this first run in a handicap. The Swiss Spirit filly drops back in trip and looks attractively weighted in her attempt to give her trainer a first winner.
