04/02/2022 – Friday’s Racing Tips

Neil Morrice provides tips for Friday’s British race meetings at Chepstow, Catterick Bridge, Lingfieldpark and Newcastle on 04/02/2022.

CHEPSTOW – 04/02/2022

Race 3 No1 SAIL AWAY (Nap)
Trainer: Dan Skelton – Jockey: Harry Skelton

SAIL AWAY made a race of it with the smart Dusart at Leicester on his first start after a wind op. The winner franked the form earlier in the week, and my selection can show he’s even more effective in a bigger field by outpointing De Young Warrior.

Race 4 No2 JUNIPER (Each Way)
Trainer: Harry Whittington – Jockey: Adrian Heskin

JUNIPER will start as one of the roughies but has a better chance than appears the case at first sight. The mare ripped off two shoes on her chase debut at Warwick and was not helped by the omission of most of the fences because of a low sun. She’s been given time out since that outing, and can make an impact against recent Leicester scorer Celma Des Bois, who should relish the conditions and also needs to be backed.

CATTERICK BRIDGE – 04/02/2022

Race 1 No1 COLLINGHAM
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Brian Hughes

COLLINGHAM has twice gone close in Class 2 company, latterly when nabbed in the final stride by Kotmask at Huntingdon. Back in a Class 4 today, he can deservedly return to winning ways at the main expense of Monsieur Pom Pom.

Race 6 No3 DONLADD
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Brian Hughes

DONLADD ran well on first run back from a breathing operation when third to File Liiico at Wetherby. That form was franked by the runner-up Relkadam here, and in what looks an easier contest the eight-year-old can prevail.

Race 7 No1 NOCTE VOLATUS (Nap)
Trainer: Tom Lacey – Jockey: My Dylan Kitts

NOCTE VOLATUS bolted up here at the end of December and the form has worked out well. He survived a nasty incident when running out at Hereford to bounce back for another commanding success at Doncaster. His jumping looked more assured the further he travelled, and if again taking to these fences he will be hard to catch.

LINGFIELD PARK – -4/02/2022

Race 2 No4 UNFORGIVING MINUTE (Nap)
Trainer: Sean Curran – Jockey: Grace McEntee

From a stable amongst the winners this week, UNFORGIVING MINUTE can return to the level of form that saw him reel off a fine hat-trick last season. His recent run here should have blown away the cobwebs and helped bring him to the boil.

Race 3 No7 KNOCKABOUT QUEEN (Each Way)
Trainer: Michael Herrington – Jockey: David Probert

Probert is an eye taking booking for KNOCKABOUT QUEEN who is in a good spot to post a first triumph for her trainer. She was restless in the stalls and didn’t get the best of runs when third in a blanket finish here last week. She’s well drawn one off the rail, and should take home another cheque of some kind.

NEWCASTLE – 04/02/2022

Race 7 No6 THAAYER (Nap)
Trainer: Michael Herrington – Jockey: Billy Garritty

THAAYER is at his best serving it up from the front. He’s earned in each of his last three starts and is a three-times winner here, and finds this seven furlongs his optimum distance. He looks a value entity to take out the nightcap.
