Neil Morrice outlines his best bets and tips for Tuesday’s British meetings at Ayr, Fakenham, Lingfield Park, Sedgefield and Wetherby on 03/05/2022.
AYR – 03/05/2022
Race 1 No6 SHOWBUSINESS
Trainer: Gordon Elliott – Jockey: Kevin Brogan
SHOWBUSINESS might have run at Down Royal by the time you read this but should Elliott ship him the gelding will be hard to beat. He ran a solid race in defeat at Kilbeggan, and will be suited by this more galloping track.
Race 6 No1 HOLLYMOUNT
Trainer: Gordon Elliott – Jockey: Sean Bowen
Bowen has teamed-up successfully with Elliott in the UK this year, and the combination should take out this weak mares’ novices’ hurdle with HOLLYMOUNT, who landed some good bets when opening her account at Ballinrobe last month.
FAKENHAM – 03/05/2022
Race 1 No1 THE FLYING SOFA (Nap)
Trainer: Gary Moore – Jockey: Jamie Moore
THE FLYING SOFA won round here as a novice and now reverts to hurdling at the basement level. He has to give away plenty of weight, but should readily outclass his opponents.
Race 3 No3 RATHMACKNEE
Trainer: Nicky Henderson – Jockey: Nico de Boinville
High Tech looks the only barrier to RATHMACKNEE notching a first success under Rules. The former Irish pointer has placed in a bumper and twice over hurdles in as many outings for top connections, and sets the standard for the others to aim at.
Race 6 No4 SOCIALISER
Trainer: Jamie Snowden – Jockey: Mr Tim Durrell
SOCIALISER showed ability in Irish points and is the joker in this pack on first outing over regulation fences. He represents a trainer with a good record in this type of contest.
LINGFIELD PARK – 03/05/2022
Race 4 No2 AWAAL (Nap)
Trainer: Simon Crisford – Jockey: James Doyle
AWAAL is a Lope De Vega colt that has progressed from an eye taking introduction when third at Wolverhampton. He stayed on in likeable fashion to trouble the judge, and will now be fully tuned to open his account.
SEDGEFIELD – 03/05/2022
Race 3 No2 PRESENTING YEATS
Trainer: Milton Harris – Jockey: Paddy Brennan
With form figures of 313311323 since undergoing wind surgery, PRESENTING YEATS is clearly enjoying his racing. That should manifest itself again as he is unlikely to come up against anything as well handicapped as his recent Newton Abbot victor Morfee.
Race 4 No1 GEROMINO (Nap)
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Brian Hughes
GEROMINO is the ready made answer to this novices’ handicap chase. The Nap looked home for all money until shutting his eyes and paying the penalty against Douglas Talking at Ayr. He is normally a slick jumper, and should put the record straight ahead of a summer jumps campaign.
Race 5 No2 LATINO FLING
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Brian Hughes
Strong travelling LATINO FLING does not have as many question marks next to her name as the others in this mares’ handicap hurdle. Her successes at Catterick and Musselburgh were gained in authoritative fashion, while she caught a tartar in Cliffs Of Doneen at Carlisle last time.
WETHERBY – 03/05/2022
Race 2 No3 MOUNTBATTEN (Nap)
Trainer: Archie Watson – Jockey: Hollie Doyle
MOUNTBATTEN ran into one when denied by Mizzen You at Chelmsford and can now demonstrate on a switch to grass that he’s set for a bountiful season. The Dabirsim gelding can enjoy the rub of the green that’s denied him on his first two outings.
Race 7 No3 FROG AND TOAD
Trainer: David O’Meara – Jockey: Danny Tudhope
In a busy start to the campaign FROG AND TOAD has scored at Doncaster sandwiched between near misses at Redcar and Thirsk. That’s all happened since he underwent a breathing operation, providing clear evidence that he’s a better horse now.
