03/01/2022 – Monday’s Racing Tips

Neil Morrice provides tips for Monday’s British race meetings at Southwell, Musselburgh,Lingfield Park and Wolverhampton on 03/01/2022.

SOUTHWELL – 03/01/2022

Race 3 No8 OHNODONTTAKEMEHOME (Each Way)
Trainer: Olly Murphy – Jockey: Gavin Sheehan

OHNODONTTAKEMEHOME isn’t the only interesting newcomer in this bumper, but he has a very interesting pedigree and represents top connections. If there’s a market move for the grey it might be worth getting involved.

Race 5 No8 BRORSON (Nap)
Trainer: Martin Keighley – Jockey: Sean Bowen

Buoyed by a comfortable success in a Catterick novice, BRORSON can carry on the good work now back in a handicap. He won that just as he liked, while his trainer has a good record with his runners at this course.

Race 7 No2 KAZONTHERAZZ (Each Way)
Trainer: Martin Keighley – Jockey: Mr Finn Lambert

Keighley could well be on the mark again with the in-form KAZONTHERAZZ. The Kayf Tara mare enjoys better ground, as she showed when gamely taking out a similar race at Uttoxeter before Christmas. A dual scorer since going hurdling, she should again trouble the judge in this competitive check out puzzle.

MUSSELBURGH – 03/01/2022

Race 2 No2 GARDE DES CHAMPS (Nap)
Trainer: Keith Dalgleish – Jockey: Brian Hughes

The best bet on the card is GARDE DES CHAMPS, whose eye taking first effort for this stable over course and distance begs to be improved on. He made a race of it with odds-on Thunder Rock, and will be all the better for that needed experience.

Race 3 No1 KAKAMORA
Trainer: Tom George – Jockey: Jonathan Burke

George sends two horses from his Gloucestershire base, and although KAKAMORA is carded to go off the outsider in this four-runner limited handicap chase, he could easily prove to be a surprise packet. He ended last season with back-to-back hurdling triumphs, and shaped with a certain amount of promise on his seasonal return over fences at Wincanton. That should have tightened him up, and he can step up to trump multiple scorer Broadway Joe.

Race 6 No2 DOM BOSCO (Each Way)
Trainer: Tom George – Jockey: Jonathan Burke

From the same unit, DOM BOSCO can earn in the bumper. He wasn’t beaten far on debut under Rules at Ludlow, and looks to have learned a fair bit from that, if his subsequent work is anything to go by.

LINGFIELD PARK – 03/01/2022

Race 2 No4 AL MARMAR (Nap)
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: David Probert

It’s difficult to see past AL MARMAR in what looks a weakly-contested maiden. The Kodiac colt made a good fist of it with Yonafis before succumbing to that rival on debut at this course, and is going to be more streetwise now.

Race 5 No6 THE PROVENIST (Each Way)
Trainer: George Boughey – Jockey: Callum Shepherd

From a handy draw it could be worth siding with THE PROVENIST to emerge as that best of a few handicap debutants in this weak affair. The Bated Breath colt has so far been beaten out of sight, but he’s a well bred individual who is surely capable of better, especially if there’s money for him.

WOLVERHAMPTON – 03/01/2022

Race 2 No6 LOVE MYSTERY (Nap)
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: Rob Hornby

Frankel colt LOVE MYSTERY has a much better draw than market rival Norton Cross, and can land the best bet vote in this race around a circuit of Dunstall Park. He put in a pleasing first effort to finish second over seven furlongs at Southwell, and should enjoy stretching out a tad on the distance ladder from the favoured rail.

Race 7 No9 ZERO HOUR
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: James Sullivan

McCain does well with his small band of all-weather horses and ZERO HOUR is well worth a market check debuting on sand and at the basement level. She picked up a cheque in consecutive visits to Catterick in the summer, and is the least exposed runner in the field.
