02/09/2022 - Friday's Best bets and Tips by Neil Morrice

ASCOT – 02/09/2022

Race 2: ONSLOW GARDENS (Nap)
Trainer: Richard Hannon – Jockey: Sean Levey

The inclusion of unraced Coolmore colt Paddington adds lustre to this maiden in which ONSLOW GARDENS is the one to beat.

The son of Footstepsinthesand started as a 20-1 roughie on debut at Newmarket only to belie those odds and chase home a good yardstick in Local Dynasty. He’s thrived in the interim, and should make his greater experience count.

Race 3: DOWALLY
Trainer: Mark Johnston – Jockey: Frankie Dettori

Although DOWALLY posted her debut second on Polytrack she’s worked well on turf at home.

When Dettori teams up with the biggest stable in the North you can usually expect fireworks, and this attractive daughter of Highland Reel is ready to go one better.

HAYDOCK – 02/09/2022

Race 1: PRIMI ORDINIS (Nap)
Trainer: Ed Walker – Jockey: Andrea Atzeni

One of the few bets on a tough card is PRIMI ORDINIS, a grey daughter of Frankel who is less exposed than the past winners in this fillies’ contest.

Race 4: FOX HILL (Each Way)
Trainer: Eric Alston – Jockey: David Allan

FOX HILL is yet to win at this course, where her veteran handler has a good record.

She knocked on the door when second to Cuban Breeze here and again when chasing home True Jem on her latest start last month, and is in a good spot to post another big earning run.

NEWCASTLE – 02/09/2022

Race 6: DESERT LAND
Trainer: Keith Dalgleish – Jockey: Billy Garritty

From a stable amongst the winners this week, DESERT LAND might be a bet worth waiting for on this tricky card.

He’s looked a happy horse since his move to Dalgleish with a course and distance success and narrow defeat at Carlisle in as many starts last month.

As long as this doesn’t come too soon after Tuesday’s run he can thwart course specialist Rocket Rod’s bid to complete a four-timer.

Race 8: POLYPHONIC (Nap)
Trainer: Karl Burke – Jockey: PJ McDonald

POLYPHONIC returned from a two month mid season break to hack up at Carlisle where he dispatched a previous winner in Gibside by eight lengths.

The gelding enjoyed dropping back in trip and should be equally happy at this evening’s slightly shorter distance.

KEMPTON – 02/09/2022

Race 1: ARTISTIC GIRL (Each Way)
Trainer: Mark Johnston – Jockey: Daniel Muscutt

Johnston fields some eye taking runners in the South today and Zoffany filly ARTISTIC GIRL is amongst them.

She’s finished last on all three starts to achieve this initial mark, but there are reasons to think she is better than she looks. One is that she was a well backed second favourite on her Yarmouth debut, while another is that she failed to handle the undulating track at Brighton. Now switched to the Polytrack surface, on which she’s worked happily at home, she can raise her game.

Race 2: THEME PARK
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Richard Kingscote

The draw is often important here and that’s one reason why the logical choice has to be The Queen’s THEME PARK.

The Lope De Vega colt ran way above the manner his starting price suggested he would on debut here, chasing home Silver Knott without being shown the whip. He can benefit from that kid glove handling to go one better as the most popular winner of the night.

Race 3: BOLD ACT (Nap)
Trainer: Charlie Appleby – Jockey: William Buick

BOLD ACT won in the manner you might expect from a 2-7 shot when getting off the mark at Newmarket and has his tail up going back to war under a penalty. The New Approach colt finds himself in one of the weaker juvenile heats on this interesting card, and any price north of evens would make him an attractive betting proposition.

Race 4: SWEET FANTASY
Trainer: Ralph Beckett – Jockey: Rob Hornby

Wootton Bassett filly SWEET FANTASY has a good draw and after a couple of solid efforts in defeat looks a winner waiting to happen.

She’s up against a big class dropper in Spanish, but if continuing to progress should open her account.

Race 5: EAGLE COURT (Each Way)
Trainer: Tom Ward – Jockey: Martin Harley

It’s taken EAGLE COURT a while to get his act together since changing stables, but the Free Eagle gelding showed he’d got himself onto a fair mark when scoring at Wolverhampton where a step up in trip proved a boon. He now goes further up the distance ladder to two miles, and can produce extra progression to follow-up.
