01/10/2021 – Friday’s Racing Tips

01/10/2021

Neil Morrice is back with his best bets and tips for Friday (01/10/2021) racing at Ascot, Hexham, Fontwell Park and Newcastle.

ASCOT – 01/10/2021

Race 1 No5 MILLTOWN STAR (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey:David Probert

MILLTOWN STAR has been an infrequent visitor to the racecourse this year but needs a second look in this following a needed run at Ripon which followed a two month absence. He’s been out of luck since taking out a Listed race at Chantilly two years ago, but can show he’s not regressed.

Race 4 No3 CAIRN GORM
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Tom Marquand

In the same ownership CAIRN GORM can show that recent losses on him at Yarmouth were merely lent. The chestnut found that reversion to five furlongs an inadequate test, and was doing his best work at the finish behind King Of Stars. He’d come home with a hard luck story on a couple of previous outings and is a winner waiting to happen.

Race 6 No1 SUNRAY MAJOR (Nap)
Trainer: John Gosden – Jockey: Frankie Dettori

SUNRAY MAJOR hacked up in a Chelmsford novice on his belated seasonal return and consequently finds himself with joint top weight for this handicap debut. The Dubawi colt is nevertheless an unknown quantity, and has the potential to give short shrift to his rivals for top connections.

HEXHAM – 01/10/2021

Race 3 No1 GLADIATORIAL (Nap)
Trainer: N Kelly – Jockey: Mr O McGill

Downpatrick winner GLADIATORIAL hacked up at Cartmel’s bank holiday fixture and can make this another profitable foray across the Irish Sea. The heavily penalised selection can follow-up at the expense of compatriot Bellamy Gem.

Race 7 No1 NORLEY
Trainer: Ben Pauling – Jockey: Luca Morgan

Unexposed top weight NORLEY is an eye taker for the nightcap after a promising first run for his trainer when troubling the judge at Bangor. He retains the tongue strap that assisted him and has a very capable conditional rider in the irons, taking off 5lb.

FONTWELL PARK – 01/10/2021

Race 1 No4 BADDESLEY
Trainer: Chris Gordon – Jockey: Tom Cannon

BADDESLEY showed ability in three bumper outings before being forced onto the sidelines on a first start in 21 months he is reported fit enough to put in a good account on debut over hurdles for a trainer who likes to run his best novices here.

Race 3 No3 HIGHWAY ONE O ONE (Nap)
Trainer: Chris Gordon – Jockey: Tom Cannon

Anemoi is interesting on debut for his trainer but preference is for HIGHWAY ONE O ONE who can help make it a good day for his trainer. The nine-year-old experienced a mixed bag of results last season after coming back from a wind operation but has gone well off a break in the past.

NEWCASTLE – 01/10/2021

Race 2 No9 THRAVE (Each Way)
Trainer: Mike Appleby – Jockey: Erika Parkinson

The visored THRAVE ran well in the Legends Race at Doncaster, staying on late to grab fourth off a hold up ride. He has his own way of doing things but if in the mood can be a player off his current mark.

Race 5 No7 KISSING (Each Way)
Trainer: Karl Burke – Jockey: Alan Persse

KISSING is yet to take home a cheque of any kind, but comes across as a filly that could have more to offer as she becomes more experienced. She could prove a surprise packet in this.
