Tipping Point 7-8 May 2022: 5 to watch this weekend

Tipping Point 7-8 May 2022

Tipping Point 7-8 May 2022 covers five exciting fixtures taking place this weekend, including Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur and Verona vs AC Milan with the Rossoneri looking to strengthen their position at the top of the Serie A table.

After a pulsating week of Champions League action where we saw Real Madrid knockout Man City and Liverpool keeping a spirited Villareal side at bay to book a date with the 14 times Champions, we now turn our attention to domestic fixtures.

Here’s a Tipping Point 7-8 May 2022 preview of selected games in Europe this weekend.

Saturday – Tipping Point 7-8 May 2022

1/4 Celtic | Draw 9/2 | Hearts 10/1 (12:00)

Celtic pretty much secured the Scottish Premier League title after managing to hold on for a draw in the Old Firm derby last weekend. The Celts now just need one win in their last three games to secure the league. Their first huddle? A Hearts team that is unbeaten in the last nine games. Celtic has beaten Hearts in their last three meetings though and is unbeaten in the last 29 games. Ange Postecoglou’s side are unbeaten at Celtic Park this year, winning 14 and drawing three times in 17 games.

The Hoops also have an unmatched goal scoring record this season with 81 goals in 35 matches, Hearts will have to put up a real fight to keep them from scoring.

Conclusion: Celtic will want to wrap up the Scottish Premier League this weekend, playing in front of their fans instead of winning it away at Dundee or in the final game of the league against Motherwell. I’m tipping a win for the Celts.

4/9 Liverpool | Draw 15/4 | Tottenham Hotspur 11/2 (19:45)

Having booked their place for the Champions League final in Paris later this month, Liverpool have Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur to host this Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp’s team has only dropped points twice in their last fifteen games, in draws against Manchester City and Chelsea much earlier this year. Key to their form this year has been their January acquisition, Luis Diaz, who’s added a new dynamic to Liverpool’s already potent attack, one they haven’t had since Philippe Coutinho left The Reds for Barcelona.

Three players in the Premier League’s top five scoring list are in Liverpool’s books but the second to Moh Salah is Son Heung-min who has a chance to showcase to the world why he should also be the talk of the transfer market this summer.  He has scored five goals in Spurs’ last five games. Liverpool we need to make special arrangements to keep him quiet on Saturday. Tottenham will be looking for all three points in this game to stay in touch with Arsenal in the race for top four.

Conclusion: The last time these teams met, in December, Tottenham managed to draw with Liverpool. Tottenham will be the fresher of the two sides when they meet, and so I am backing a double chance of a Tottenham win or draw here. Liverpool will lose the title race at Anfield.

Sunday – Tipping Point 7-8 May 2022

2/11 Manchester City | Draw 6/1 | Newcastle United 16/1 (16:30)

The Cityzens will head into this one limping after their dreams of winning the Champions League were derailed by a fantastic Real Madrid team on Wednesday night. Man City have themselves to blame really for allowing Madrid back in the game in the first leg and their failure to capitalize on chances at the Santiago Bernabeu.

This weekend they face a Newcastle team that will be a new menace to them in seasons to come, matching them in their biggest power, money. Newcastle is the new kid on the block though and have had to be reminded time and time again by the big boys they aren’t anywhere near their level yet. Last time out their run of four wins in a row was snapped by Liverpool. Before that their last loss was a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Tottenham.

There is a good vibe about Newcastle right now and they will go to the Etihad with a point to prove albeit with a hint of caution to avert another big thrashing, similar to the one they got handed by City in December.

Conclusion: Man City will still be heartbroken over their UCL loss, they will no doubt rush to put that loss behind them with a commanding display. I’m tipping a City win with Over 2.5 Total Goals.

13/10 Villarreal | Draw 85/40 | Sevilla 2/1 (15:15)

While the Yellow Submarine was having the time of its life in the UEFA Champions League this season, not many have paid attention to how average they’ve been in LaLiga. Laying on seventh position, Villarreal will be sweating to qualify for the Europa League or at least the Conference League to ensure they participate in a European competition next season. Villareal has won twice in their last five games, losing two other games and drawing another.

They come up against a Sevilla side with the exact same record in the last five games but Julien Lopetegui’s team are number three on the LaLiga table and look certain to finish inside the top four having won 17 and lost only four times in 34 games this season.

Conclusion: Both these teams have failed to keep a clean sheet in recent games, back both teams to score @ 77/100

10/3 Hellas Verona | Draw 16/5 | AC Milan 8/11 (19:45)

Most Inter fans will stay up to watch this game supporting Verona! If Inter is to stay at the top of the table (should they win) they will need Verona to do them a favor by either beating or drawing with AC Milan. If there’s any team that can be trusted with an upset of this nature, it is Verona, a team that has won nine games at home this season, including an impressive win against Juventus in October.

Milan isn’t shabby away from home either having collected 12 wins this season and was able to beat Verona back in October.

Conclusion: A tough one to call but the Rossoneri haven’t won the league since the 2010/2011 season, they won’t be keen on any slip-ups. AC Milan should win with Under 2.5 Total Goals.
