Tipping Point 30 April-1 May 2022: 5 fixtures to watch this weekend

Tipping Point 30 April-1 May 2022 covers five exciting fixtures taking place this weekend, including Celtic vs Rangers as the Bhoys are closing in on the league title.

April saw a lot of hearts broken in the Premier League race for the top four, while things are still tight in the race for the Scottish Premier League with just six points separating Celtic and Rangers.

In Serie A, Inter quite literally shot themselves in the foot to hand the initiative to their bitter rivals AC Milan, while Madrid has pretty much wrapped up La Liga.

Here’s a preview of selected games in Europe this weekend.

Saturday – Tipping Point 30 April-1 May 2022

Newcastle United 13/2 | Draw 15/4 | Liverpool 42/100 (12:30)

Newcastle’s rise up the Premier League table has been a marvel to watch after their January transfer window business.

The Magpies have moved from the relegation zone straight to the top half of the table with 43 points. With safety now guaranteed, Newcastle will spend the rest of this campaign measuring themselves against the best in the league and, on current form, there’s no better measuring stick than Liverpool.

Newcastle’s recent losses have come against Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, and Chelsea. Everton loss aside, they have an idea how big the gap is between them and the top six regulars.

Key to their turn in form has been the Brazilian Joelinton, whose stats since he switched to midfield have been a revelation. He’s also managed to score two goals in their last three games.

Liverpool, much like City, have an almost complete team with a strong defense, midfield and attacking line. Having gone 14 games unbeaten, they will be hunting another three points from The Toon to keep up with Man City who face Leeds United later on the day.

Conclusion: Eddie Howe still struggles to find ways to beat the top teams, however, if his team scores first they could have a chance to walk away with something considering Liverpool will have one eye on the Champions League semi-final. I’m backing a Double Chance: Liverpool win or draw

Real Madrid 46/100 | Draw 7/2 | Espanyol 6/1 (15:15)

La Liga Champions-elect Real Madrid meet an Espanyol side that have won twice and lost three times in their last five games.

Real are on a four-game winning streak and look like they are in no mood to slip up. They lead the LaLiga table by 15 points, ironically they’ve stretched their lead by a further three points since Xavi took over as Barca coach, despite his players publicly stating Madrid were ‘lucky’ they took time to get their act together this season and the 4-0 thrashing they handed Madrid.

Madrid are likely to rest key players in this game ahead of the Champions League semi-final return leg against Man City. Players who didn’t feature in the first leg, like Alaba, might get a few minutes for match fitness.

Conclusion: This should be an easy win for the home side.

Sunday – Tipping Point 30 April-1 May 2022

Celtic FC 5/6 | Draw 5/2 | Glasgow Rangers 14/5 (12:00)

With just four games to go in the Scottish Premiership, Celtic and Rangers are almost neck-and-neck with each other. Just six points separate the Old Firm foes and things couldn’t be better poised before Sunday’s clash.

The home side will head into this one well-rested having watched their rivals compete in the Europa League on Thursday night. Earlier this month Rangers managed a comeback victory against Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-finals, spoiling what’s been a good season for The Bhoys.

While the advantage for the title race is with Celtic, a loss on Sunday will cut their lead to just three points with three games to go, meaning they could wait until the final day of the season to lift it. Celtic won’t have to look far for inspiration for this game though having thrashed Rangers by three goals to nil at Celtic Park in February.

Rangers on the hand will also come into this game in good form having lost just once in their last five games.

The mental strength of The Gers should be commended having reached the semi-finals of the Europa League and still staying in touch with Celtic in the title race.

On Sunday coach Giovanni van Bronkhorst will have Thursday’s Europa League return leg in mind before lining up his troops. His selection will be affected by the missing players through injury: Aaron Ramsey, Kemar Roofe, and Alfredo Morelos.

Conclusion: I’m backing a home victory for Celtic and a clean sheet.

Everton 4/1 | Draw 13/5 | Chelsea 7/10 (14:00)

Frank Lampard hosts his former employers when Everton entertain Chelsea at Goodison this Sunday.

The Toffees have been under immense pressure this term and could face the drop for the first time in their existence.

The Blues have their attention set elsewhere as their main focus from now until the end of the season will be on their FA Cup final tie against Liverpool next month at Wembley.

Thomas Tuchel’s side created several chances against a lackluster Manchester United team in midweek but failed to capitalize on the Red Devils’ frailties.

Conclusion: With more to play and more fight in their hearts, put your money on Everton to win or draw and both teams to score @ 9/4.

AC Milan 5/8 | Draw 29/10 | Fiorentina 9/2 (14:00)

AC Milan have a tricky four games left before the season is wrapped up.

First it’s Fiorentina, then Verona, Atalanta and Sassuolo. Honestly, this is a hellish run compared to Inter (who somehow managed to drop points against Bologna in midweek).

Fiorentina have only lost twice in the last six games, a run they collected ten points from before their shock loss to Salernitana which was then followed by a 4-0 thrashing by Udinese.

What will worry Milan fans is their lack of cutting edge in front of goal with the team winning 1-0 in their last three victories.

Conclusion: AC Milan should have enough to claim a decent win against Fiorentina. Despite their shyness in front of goal, I’m expecting AC Milan to score Over 1.5 Goals, currently 4/6
