PREVIEW: Premier League – Liverpool vs Arsenal

All eyes will be on Anfield come Sunday evening where another massive game waits for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds, and one with major implications on the title race. Liverpool will try and spoil the party – and in the process put some respect back on their names.

To Win Match
Liverpool 17/10 | Draw 13/5 | Arsenal 13/10

Liverpool

Oh, to be a Liverpool fan this season! To watch a team, play with undeniable ability, poise, and accuracy only to reduce it a lackluster and lethargic submission in the league.

I’m not sure what has gone wrong for Liverpool, they have one of the best managers in the world. He is supported by a contingent of players who can stand next to the game’s best and are supported by arguably the most passionate home fans.

Since Liverpool destroyed United by seven goals to nothing, they have struggled to find any sort of consistency. They haven’t really scored goals and conceded goals which have completely undone their structure or defensive efforts.

Even if we were to ignore Wednesday night’s game, the Reds would have only scored once since the beginning of March and conceded on six occasions. I know you might not have imagined such a picture given the deafening silence in the media – but maybe that’s why they struggle to perform!

Predicted Line-up: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Elliott, Jota, Salah, Gakpo

Arsenal

I’m going to stick my neck out a little and say this with as much conviction as can be transferred through the written word. If Arsenal are going to lose this league, it is going to be done due to their inability to secure their defence and compliment the work being done in the final third.

I saw a metric the other day which showed the expected shots they are to face on their goal has risen from 2.4 in 90 minutes to 3.6 per 90 minutes since the World Cup. Now, we’ve all seen this movie before…to win titles you will not always blow teams away, even when you are better than them. Often you might need to grind out a result.

Nevertheless, they have an attacking threat capable of scoring for fun and if they are allowed to get into stride, I think this could be a tough evening for the men from Merseyside.

Predicted Line-up: Ramsdale, White, Holding, Magalhaes, Zinchenko, Odegaard, Partey, Xhaka, Saka, Jesus, Martinelli

Verdict: Arsenal (13/10)

I’m not enjoying seeing the Arsenal fans come out of the woodwork more and more as we head closer to the end of the season, but I struggle to make a case for Liverpool here.

Yes, this is the sort of game where if you are Jurgen Klopp you are showing your players the chance they have to make a statement…but I cannot see past an Arsenal win.
