Barcelona have won the LaLiga title for the first time since 2019. The Catalans clinched their 27th Spanish crown with three games left to go. But La Liga still has a few blockbuster games left with teams still trying to qualify for Europe and avoid relegation.
Friday 19 May
Cadiz 23/20| Draw 11/5 | Valladolid 23/10
Cadiz currently sit in 16th place and just one point away from relegation. El Submarino Amarillo have a chance to move away from the relegation zone if they can gain maximum points when they welcome Valladolid to their home turf.
Real Valladolid lock horns with Cadiz away from home in a potential relegation decider. Valladolid are on a bad run of form coming into this fixture with one win in their last five fixtures. The defence has been a huge problem for Albivioletas and will need to tighten up if they look to avoid being dragged into the relegation fight. Looking at form at this point of the season, Cadiz are tipped to win.
Saturday 20 May
Girona 17/10 | Draw 13/5 | Villarreal 13/10
Girona picking up a draw away from home in their previous fixture did not prove to be too detrimental to their ambitions for the season at this point in time and still find themselves occupying that European spot which would have been the objective for the season.
Villarreal have a outside chance of finishing in fourth place as we come towards the end of the season. They sit five points out of the top four with three games left to play, and will be motivated by the thought of qualifying for the Champions League. They will need to come away with all three points away to Girona first and take it one game at a time. Back Villarreal to win.
Athletic Bilbao 13/20 | Draw 11/4 | Celta Vigo 4/1
Athletic Bilbao have not been the same outfit this season to previous, playing their free -flowing attacking football they are known for. One win in five fixtures speaks volumes to the recent drop they are facing in the league. Bilbao can use this match as a steppingstone in the right direction to get the best possible finish for the season.
Celta Vigo have shown huge fight and character to pull themselves away from the relegation zone after a poor start to the season. Iago Aspas will need to show his leadership to galvanise the squad as Los Celestes are on a disappointing run of form on their travels, losing three in a row prior coming into this fixture. Athletic Bilbao will be too strong for Celta Vigo at home.
Almeria 5/4 | Draw 85/40 | Mallorca 11/5
Almeria find themselves just two points above the relegation zone late on in the campaign. The priority will be to stay focused from now until the end of the season and gain maximum points in every fixture that comes before them in order to secure their place for next season.
Mallorca picked up a very important win at home in their previous fixture which leaves them mathematically safe for next season, but complacency will not be allowed to creep in and they must stay focused on the job at hand when they travel to Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos to face Almeria. Almeria have more to play in this fixture to avoid relegation and I’m backing them to give a huge performance which should be enough to come away with the win.
Getafe 12/25 | Draw 29/10 | Elche 6/1
Getafe have a massive chance to pick maximum points at home in front of their home fans which could possibly move them out of the relegation zone. The home fans will be in full voice behind their team as every game is considered a final from now until the end of the season to fight it out the relegation zone.
Elche are rooted to the bottom of the La Liga standings in 20th place and it’s just a matter of time before they are relegated. They will need to replicate the same performance they showed in their previous fixture if they have any hopes of coming away with any points from this match. Getafe are tipped to get all-important three points at home.
Barcelona 5/6 | Draw 5/2 | Real Sociedad 3/1
Barcelona will be welcomed with an amazing atmosphere by their home fans at the Spotify Camp Nou after they were crowned La Liga champions for the 27th time. Xavi has done a great job, bringing in silverware in his first season at the helm. There will be no room for complacency as Xavi will demand a dominant performance from his team and an exciting display of football to give something for the fans to cheer about.
Real Sociedad are on the way to qualifying for the Champions League and are currently in fourth place with 62 points from 34 matches this season. Sociedad have been in fine form in recent weeks and will look to continue this run with three matches still to play. Barcelona to win in front of their home fans.
Sunday 21 May
Rayo Vallecano 11/10 | Draw 23/10 | Espanyol 23/10
Rayo Vallecano started this season with the main goal, to stay away from the relegation battle as much as possible, but instead, they are a serious contender for the UEFA Conference League spot. A win will be massive for their hopes of closing the gap to bring them closer to that qualifying spot.
Espanyol will be disappointed losing to city rivals Barcelona in their previous fixture which handed the Catalans their 27th La Liga championship, and to make matters worse, they are deep in a relegation battle and sit four points away from safety. Back Rayo Vallecano to win.
Atletico Madrid 4/11 | Draw 15/4 | Osasuna 7/1
Atletico Madrid, who have been in sensational form since the World Cup, were inexplicably blunt against bottom-of-the-table Elche, who earned only their fourth win of the season. Diego Simeone will accept third place and a Champions League spot but will want to bounce back with a win and must maintain their focus until the end of the season.
Osasuna have a tough task ahead of them when they travel to Estadio Metropolitano to face Atletico Madrid but will be high in confidence and will need to be cautious in their approach and find a way to maximize their opportunities that come before them. Atletico will be too strong on the day and get the win.
Valencia 2/1| Draw 5/2 | Real Madrid 23/20
The Estadio Mestalla is a football ground with a lot of history. It’s 100 years of history make it one of the most attractive stadiums to watch a football match in the world, not just Spain. This celebration will motivate the players to go out and give off a strong performance and reward their fans with a win against a familiar foe when they welcome Real Madrid to the Mestalla.
Real Madrid will be looking to secure second spot this season after a few setbacks they had along the way, but still have it all to play for in the Champions League. Carlo Ancelotti will put all the attention in lifting the Champions League trophy but not forgetting the importance in winning the remaining fixtures for the season. Back Real Madrid to go out and put on a show while coming back with all three points.
Sevilla 6/5 | Draw 23/10 | Real Betis 85/40
José Mendilibar inherited a team which looked dispirited, accepting of failure and which was behaving like relegation would be a blessed relief. He’s made them bristle with “you won’t beat us” aggression, he’s made them free-scoring, he’s made them attractive to watch and he’s saved Sevilla from relegation. Sevilla will play on the front foot and hope to put Real Betis to the sword to claim all three points.
Betis is sixth in the standings, four points ahead of Girona and five points behind Villarreal, and at this point of the season, Europa League qualification for next season will be welcomed with open arms. Joaquin will hope that he can feature in Real Betis’ final four matches as he aims to finish his incredible career with a flourish. Looking at what lies for both teams at this point of the season, I see Real Betis coming away with a win.
