PREVIEW: Dortmund applying maximum pressure on Bayern, Hertha host Bochum in relegation scrap and more from Bundesliga week 33

Bayern Munich continue to stamp their authority in pursuit of an 11th successive Bundesliga title, but rivals Borussia Dortmund maintain pressure just one point adrift. On the other end of the table, a relegation battle looms strong for the bottom few.

Friday 19 May

Freiburg 5/4 | Draw 5/2 | Wolfsburg 2/1

Freiburg’s 4-2 loss to Union Berlin last time out cost them a tangible shot at qualifying for the Champions League. Wolfsburg, on the other hand, took their opportunity at edging closer to Europa League qualification. Die Wolfe demolished Freiburg 6-0 in the reverse fixture and that just may be the reason they hold onto sixth place with a +1-goal difference. Back the away side.

Saturday 20 May

Hertha Berlin 6/5 | Draw 13/5 | Bochum 15/8

A Hertha Berlin loss would spell conclusive failure, while a win for Bochum could possibly secure their place in the upcoming season. Apart from the title race, this is the fixture to watch! I’m backing Both Teams to Score (Yes).

Hoffenheim 29/20 | Draw 12/5 | Union Berlin 13/8

Union Berlin finally showed up with a 4-2 win placing them on the border of Champions League qualification. A defeat this gameweek would likely drop Hertha into the bottom three for the final matchday. Back the away side on the Win/Draw Double Chance.

Schalke 9/5 | Draw 13/5 | Eintracht Frankfurt 5/4

Schalke have moments of capitulation with a recent 4-0 loss to Freiburg, and last week’s 6-0 loss to Bayern. They have also had great wins in between said losses that puts them on the cusp of maintaining topflight status. The home win looks good value.

Werder Bremen 29/20 | Draw 11/4 | Cologne 6/4

At dead even odds, this fixture leaves me avoiding a bet. But if you must have a punt, know that Werder have lost three consecutive fixtures whilst Cologne have won their last two. The away side is tipped.

Bayern Munich 1/2 | Draw 15/4 | RB Leipzig 4/1

This fixture could decide the title. Bayern made it known that they will not let this slip with a 6-0 victory last time out, but their biggest hurdle resides in the penultimate game of the season. RB Leipzig have won their last three fixtures on the bounce and are prepping for the DFB Pokal final with every kick of the ball. Many teams have taken points off Bayern this season, including Leipzig. However, Both Teams To Score (Yes).

Sunday 21 May

Mainz 29/20 | Draw 5/2 | Stuttgart 8/5

The first of three Sunday fixtures, Mainz and Stuttgart go toe-to-toe. After 1975, 2016, and most recently 2019, this could be only the fourth time Stuttgart face relegation in the club’s history – a loss would spell ultimate defeat. The draw is likely.

Augsburg | Draw  | Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund have been putting in very promising performances, always applying pressure to opposition by playing on the front foot and attacking with wave after wave of desire to continue finding the back of the net. Get strongly behind the banker of the gameweek – Dortmund.

Bayer Leverkusen  | Draw  | Monchengladbach

Bayer Leverkusen were able to take advantage of a 70th-minute penalty converted by Exequiel Palacios to keep them level on points with Wolfsburg for a European spot. With something still to play for, I’m backing the home side.
