First T20I preview: England vs South Africa

First T20I Preview: England vs South Africa

The weather ruined the ODI series between these two but there is hope that the T20Is will be completed without interruption.

There are some notable returns for the Proteas and absences for England.

England vs South Africa | First T20I | Wednesday 27 July 2022 | The Bristol County Ground, Bristol |

England – First T20I

Adil Rashid is back to do duty for England having made the pilgrimage to Mecca for Hajj.

It might be England’s left-arm brigade that trouble the Proteas most, with Reece Topley enjoying a particularly fruitful summer.

Harry Brook is out to establish himself in England’s white ball teams after a promising start and is one of many batters to watch in the England lineup.

Dawid Malan and Liam Livingstone provide tremendous value to the team while not always getting the recognition they deserve.

South Africa – First T20I

There has been a recall for Rilee Rossouw which comes just as he has enjoyed a run-rich Vitality Blast in England giving hime the leg-up on current form.

Quite where he slots in is a poser given that Quinton de Kock is likely to partner with Reeza Hendricks.

Gerald Coetzee is a young fast bowler with the potential to be an allrounder and he has been knocking on the door with his efforts in domestic cricket.

The Proteas have favoured the use of their specialist bowlers which has given them a long tail in the short format.

Verdict: England – First T20I

England should hold the edge at home.
