Lyon and the Bordeaux Begles square off in the second and final of this weekend’s Top 14 barrage/play-offs.

The hosts head into this one as heavy favourites having finished the regular season in third-place while Bordeaux just managed to scrape into the next phase of the competition by just two ladder points.

Lyon 4/7 | Draw 24/1 | Bordeaux Begles 13/10

Le Wolves had a solid close to their regular season, beating Perpignan 39-31 drawing 31-31 with Stade and then closing the regular season campaign with a 53-19 win over Bayonne. They will be going all out to ensure they keep their dreams of 2022/23 silverware alive having bombed out of the Challenge Cup to local rivals Toulon at the quarter-final stage.

Bordeaux had a harder time reaching the quarter-finlas as they just managed to steal into sixth due to Toulon placing more onus on the Challenge Cup than the domestic league. The Begles had a weird old final few weeks of the domestic regular season as their 28-0 victory over Pau was bookended by defeats to Toulouse (31-17) and Toulon (35-19).

Unlike the Racing 92 versus Stade Francais head to heads, games between Lyon and Bordeaux were won by the team with hosting rights this term with Lyon winning 36-21 at the Stade Gerland and Bordeaux recording a 23-9 victory at  the Stade Chaban-Delmas.

I’m backing the home side to win this one at something of a canter and clear a handicap which is likely to be under the five point mark.

Lyon at (-5.5) 11/10.
