SOUTHWELL

Race 1 – FORWARD PLAN 5/2

FORWARD PLAN can bring up a Southwell double in the opening handicap chase. Tried over just short of two and a half miles on his penultimate run, that trip looked far too short and returned to three and a quarter miles at this track in January, he duly bounced back to winning form. He was well in command that day, far from all out for a length-and-three-quarter verdict, so a 4lb rise should be within his compass.

Race 4 – DENSWORTH 33/20

DENSWORTH hit the jackpot dropped back in trip and he can follow up in this novices’ hurdle at Southwell. Tried over two and a half miles, Densworth made all for victory over two miles and a furlong at Newcastle in January, coasting home by nine and a half lengths. It might not have been the strongest race, but Densworth’s confidence should now be riding high.

WETHERBY

Race 2 – HALLIGATOR

HALLIGATOR was a winner on debut for Kim Bailey back in June and despite the lengthy absence, he cannot be ruled out of this novices’ hurdle at Wetherby. Second on his only bumper start for Declan Queally, he changed hands for £40,000 subsequently and turned in a solid round of hurdling at Uttoxeter to offer some return at the first time of asking. He will likely want further in time, but two miles seems a fair starting point after a prolonged break.

WOLVERHAMPTON

Race 2 – FINAL ACCOUNT 11/2

FINAL ACCOUNT is the pick in division two of this handicap test. He went a bit soon at Newcastle last month and the mid-race effort seemed to tell in the finish as he faded a bit in the last of the six furlongs. It was still a fair run and Final Account could find the same level of form good enough here, with Oisin Murphy taking the ride.

Race 5 – Evania 9/4

EVANIA can maintain her excellent record for Kevin Philippart de Foy with another victory in the fifth at Wolverhampton this evening. Related to some black-type performers, Evania began life with the Gosden team, winning her only juvenile start before sustaining an injury that kept her on the sidelines for 629 days. Switched to the care of Philippart de Foy for her return, she made an immediate impact when prevailing in a Kempton novice back in September before finding herself up against it in Listed company, coming home eighth behind the likes of Missed The Cut and Dubai World Cup favourite Algiers. Back in calmer waters at Southwell last month, Evania returned to winning ways with a cosy length victory over the reopposing Capital Theory off level weights, looking value for the margin. Evania must concede 5lb to that rival this time, but she remains unexposed and is firmly on an upwards trajectory.

Race 6 – GREYSTROKE 9/2

GREYSTROKE did not enjoy the clearest of runs at Wolverhampton last time, but compensation awaits here. Beaten just under five lengths, Alan King’s charge was not helped when caught up in a bit of traffic turning for home. While he likely would not have won in any case, he might have got closer and Greystoke remains in good heart.
