England weren’t able to play the bold game they pride themselves on in challenging circumstances. James Richardson takes a look ahead to the second ODI.

Bangladesh vs England | Second ODI | Friday 3 March 2023 | Shere-e-Bangla Stadium | 06:00 GMT

To Win Match
Bangladesh 7/4 | England 4/9

Bangladeshi batters might not have too many kind words for the groundsman at the Shere-e-Bangla given what the surface has put them through in recent outings.

These low-scoring outings have been an equaliser for Bangladesh but it has been hard on the records of the Tiger’s best.

Mehidy Hasan has been the man to seemingly benefit the most from the pitches picking up hatfuls of wickets.

This scrapping team will be tough to beat in Dhaka with India already finding it a hard task.

England’s man for the moment in Dhaka appeared purpose-built for the cause of muscling the Three Lions home.

Dawid Malan scoring an unbeaten hundred on an absolute hound of a wicket underlines his value to this England team.

Malan cycled through several partners but held his nerve, however it was a performance that showed just how thin the margins are in the ODI game.

If Bangladesh can undo Malan, they could put England on the ropes but the England bowling attack will also have a big say.

Verdict: England 4/9

It’ll be a tough ask in the Dhaka dustbowl, but England should be able to scratch out another win on Friday.
