Hollywoodbets sponsored jockey, Dan Muscutt will be taking to Valencia this weekend with a sub three-hour finish on his mind. The UK based talent was quite athletic in school, citing rugby as his favourite sport growing up.

In more recent times, he has taken a strong liking to long-distance running. His introduction to the sport didn’t go according to plan at first. Back in October 2018, Muscutt suffered a serious accident at the horse races whilst riding a two-year-old (making its track debut at Chelmsford).

A cracked rib, injured neck, and fractures to his back was the outcome of that incident. Thus began the four-month recovery time wherein he was nursed back to health at Oaksey House, the Injured Jockeys Fund rehabilitation centre in Lambourn.

During the weeks that he didn’t attend rehabilitation, Muscutt began jogging lightly, before increasing the distance. One or two miles gradually became five which increased to ten-mile runs.

In September 2019, Muscutt opted in for a local half marathon (spanning over 13-miles) that took place in Ely, Cambridgeshire. He had invested in a runners’ watch which taught him about pace control, helping him to add two more half marathons to his collection.

Muscutt had his sights set on the Brighton full marathon which he planned to run in April 2020 – but it was postponed due to Coronavirus. Instead, he ran a full marathon alone, covering more than 26 miles, in three hours and 23 minutes – there’s that never say die attitude!

Still in his mid-twenties, Muscutt will be aiming to clock a marathon in under three hours. When asked about potential marathon destinations, Muscutt had this to say, “London is very difficult to (secure) a place, as it gets so many applicants. I’d like to have a crack at the comrades at some point, it’s just a shame it falls in part of the busiest time in the UK racing season. Beyond those two, I think New York would be high on my list.”
