Scotland
Scotland weren’t able to take wickets early in the series opener and that would cost them dearly as they spent the match chasing the game.
Some questions might be asked of new skipper Richie Berrington after he used himself as the sixth bowler even if he was able to take a wicket.
In their own innings, Scotland couldn’t avoid the loss of wickets and wouldn’t come close to hauling in the target.
Scotland will need to improve in every area of the game if they are to compete in the second T20I.
New Zealand
New Zealand were afforded the pefect start last time out, both to the match and to the series as they quickly backed Scotland into a corner.
Allen’s incredible hundred was the stand out knock and allowed New Zealand to go for it in the finish.
The bowlers had no trouble defending a big score even on the relatively small field at the Grange.
New Zealand’s slow bowlers did the trick for them with Mitchell Santer and Ish Sodhi getting the crucial early scalps.
Verdict: New Zealand.
The Black Caps were totally dominant in the first T20 and should cruise to another pretty comfortable victory in Edinburgh on Friday.
