Third ODI preview: Ireland vs New Zealand

Third ODI preview: Ireland vs New Zealand

Ireland didn’t put up the fight that their first ODI performance suggested they were capable of at the second time of asking.

As a result New Zealand have clinched the series but there are still Cricket World Cup Super League points on the line.

Ireland: Third ODI

Top order failures again let Ireland down although their allrounders were able to ensure that the hosts could at least battle past the 200 mark in the second ODI.

After putting on over 300 in the series opener much was expected of this new-look Irish lineup.

It isn’t the new faces that are letting Ireland down but the old hands, fuelling calls for a few to consider their transition out of the national team setup.

Skipper Andy Balbirnie has called on his team to show more fighting spirit in the final match of the ODI series.

New Zealand: Third ODI

Michael Bracewell and Matt Henry spearheaded New Zealand’s victory in the second ODI with the former claiming his second man of the match award in succession.

It was Henry who kicked things off showing his uncanny ability to rip apart a team with the new ball whether it is red or white.

New Zealand suffered their own mini-collapse to start their chase, but half centuries from Finn Allen and skipper Tom Latham were enough to get them in range for Bracewell to finish off demonstrating the Black Caps’ batting depth.

Left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner is an underrated bowler and does a great job for this New Zealand team in all sorts of conditions.

Verdict: New Zealand: Third ODI

New Zealand should close out a series whitewash.
