Second ODI Preview: England vs India

England’s blowout in the opener has handed India the impetus in this series.

India delivered a knockout punch with their impressive fast bowling attack which sets up the series intriguingly.

England vs India | Second ODI | Thursday 14 July 2022 | Lord’s, London | 14:00

England: Second ODI

It has been a rocky start to the Jos Buttler-Matthew Mott era for the England white-ball team even if it was a huge task first up.

Buttler has seen a fragmented England wilt in the face of a fierce India unit bent on winning at all costs while the Three Lions seem in no hurry to get their ducks in a row, apart from those of Jason Roy, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes in the series opener at the Oval.

England were unceremoniously walloped in a match that will doubtless not have pleased the crowd who came out hoping for 100 overs of cricket and got 44 and so should be motivated to improve.

Despite sporting an experienced lineup, England were lined up by India’s five specialist bowlers and they need to try to disrupt that and the opening pairing of Roy and Jonny Bairstow are most likely to provide.

India: Second ODI

India put in short shift for full pay last time out and have all the momentum in the world.

However in their ranks is a man on an incredibly lean run, in the form of Virat Kohli, who continues to struggle even as India do well.

Kohli was left out at the Oval but could return to action at Lord’s and might even be asked to open the batting.

However, No 3 does seem to be the position that would be best suited given the form of both Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma and the longstanding nature of that axis.

Verdict: India

India should clinch the series at the Home of Cricket.
