03/03/2022 – Thursday’s Racing Tips

Neil Morrice outlines his best bets and tips for Thursday’s British meetings at Ludlow, Taunton, Newcastle and Southwell on 03/03/2022.

LUDLOW – 03/03/2022

Race 1 No1 HIDOR DE BERSY
Trainer: Tom Symonds – Jockey: Aidan Coleman

HIDOR DE BERSY was slick and accurate at his obstacles when opening his account over jumps at Fakenham. He’d bumped into a couple of useful foes when beaten in two previous hurdling runs, and should prove too hot for the fellow penalised Knickerbockerglory to handle.

Race 5 No3 HEAD TO THE STARS
Trainer: Henry Daly – Jockey: Hugh Nugent

Locally trained HEAD TO THE STARS has been laid out for a crack at this oldest race in the Ludlow calendar. All three of the veteran’s successes over fences have been gained here, and after a light campaign he should enjoy this return.

Race 6 No1 PICANHA
Trainer: Richard Phillips – Jockey: Daniel Hiskett

Although giving away weight all round, PICANHA has the wherewithal to get back to winning ways in this first run in a handicap. Out of his depth in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham won by North Lodge, he nevertheless ran well to a point, and with few miles on his racing clock still holds room for progression.

Race 7 No2 NOT THAT FUISSE (Nap)
Trainer: Dan Skelton – Jockey: Mr T Durrell

NOT THAT FUISSE appeared to be still full of running when brought down just as the race was taking shape here last month. He’d run creditably in his only other hunter-chase outing and his trainer looks to have now found him an easier race.

TAUNTON – 03/03/2022

Race 4 No5 LOUD AS LIONS (Each Way)
Trainer: Tom Symonds – Jockey: David Noonan

LOUD AS LIONS has a good record when completing the course, but having pulled-up on his seasonal return comes with risks attached. Should that first outing after a wind operation have brought him on, he could take home a cheque at a working man’s price.

Race 5 No4 STEADY AWAY (Each Way)
Trainer: TBC – Jockey: James Bowen

STEADY AWAY put in a rare poor showing at Market Rasen last time, but this longstanding maiden has posted several placed efforts that give him a good chance of ending the drought if back to earlier season form.

NEWCASTLE – 03/03/2022

Race 2 No5 TEUMESSIAS FOX
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: David Probert

The cash was down on TEUMESSIAS FOX when the Lope De Vega colt ran at Kempton last month. He was made plenty of use of and paid the penalty when weakening inside the final furlong. He’s a big, long striding individual that might be happier operating on a straight track.

Race 4 No2 IMPERIUM (Nap)
Trainer: Roger Charlton – Jockey: Richard Kingscote

IMPERIUM can further bolster his excellent record on sand by taking out the day’s feature. The Frankel gelding has delivered on six of his last eight starts in all-weather competition and after a clear cut success in first time cheek pieces at Kempton, is ready to show that the headgear works again.

SOUTHWELL – 03/03/2022

Race 1 No3 AFTER THE RAIN
Trainer: Charlie Appleby – Jockey: Hollie Doyle

Shamardal filly AFTER THE RAIN can prove more than a match for bar mate Colourful Dream in a race Godolphin can dominate. The selection is open to greater progress after a near miss on debut at Newcastle, and will be more streetwise.

Race 7 No6 MAHARASHTRA (Nap)
Trainer: Michael Herrington – Jockey: Cam Hardie

MAHARASHTRA a looked good value for his success at the track last week and can defy a 5lb penalty as his connections seek to strike again while the iron’s hot.
