01/03/2022 – Tuesday’s Racing Tips

Neil Morrice outlines his best bets and tips for Tuesday’s British meetings at  Catterick Bridge, Leicester and Newcastle on 01/03/2022.

CATTERICK BRIDGE – 01/03/2022

Race 2 No1 MACKENBURG (Nap)
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Brian Hughes

Life could be seen as tough for MACKENBURG with his double-penalty, but few novices have impressed me as much as he did when hammering one of today’s rivals Cornerstone Lad at Carlisle. Always in cruise control that day, he can confirm his superiority and remain unbeaten over fences.

Race 5 No6 CHANTING HILL
Trainer: Nick Alexander – Jockey: Danny McMenamin

CHANTING HILL can prove more than a match for her male rivals in this long distance handicap chase. The eight-year-old has improved from race to race in three outings this season, and narrowly failed to land some good bets at this course last time. She has every chance of going one better with a capable new jockey in her saddle.

LEICESTER – 01/03/2022

Race 2 No5 LEGENDARY RHYTHM
Trainer: Tom Symonds – Jockey: David Noonan

LEGENDARY RHYTHM shaped like a mare running into form when third to Here We Have It on a first start since a wind op here last month. It was also only her second outing since going chasing, and now back up in trip there should be improvement under her bonnet.

Race 4 No2 CELMA DES BOIS (Each Way)
Trainer: Richard Rowe – Jockey: Niall Houlihan

Course winner CELMA DES BOIS came from last to first in the long home straight here when achieving that, but was then compromised by extenuating circumstances when pulled-up at Chepstow. He was a late arrival at the track that day, giving him little time to relax before the race, while the starter’s decision to abort two attempts to let them go rebounded on him when he lost a dozen lengths from a standing start. Back to a happier hunting ground, he can bounce back with an earning run.

Race 6 No5 SIXTEEN LETTERS (Nap)
Trainer: N McLean – Jockey: Mr Josh Newman

Drying conditions should suit SIXTEEN LETTERS on his hunter-chase debut. The ten-year-old made it two wins from just three starts over fences when posting back-to-back triumphs at Worcester in the spring, and can now make a perfect start in this new code and complete a fine hat-trick.

NEWCASTLE – 01/03/2022

Race 4 No2 MILLIONAIRE WALTZ
Trainer: Ben Haslam – Jockey: Andrew Mullen

MILLIONAIRE WALTZ has found Gosforth Park a happy hunting ground with two successes from seven straight outings on its Tapeta course. He attracted market support before going down in a driving finish a fortnight ago, and can now avenge the defeat in an identical situation.

Race 5 No3 VENTUROUS (Nap)
Trainer: David Barron – Jockey: Connor Beasley

Three previous winners clash in this sprint but the one to be on is VENTUROUS. The Nap demonstrated his effectiveness here by posting a 25-1 shocker back in early January, but he has such a good overall record on sand that he appeals as a horse to stay with on this return from a short break.
