Neil Morrice outlines his best bets and tips for Friday’s British meetings at Fakenham, Kelso, Lingfield Park and Southwell on 18/02/2022.
FAKENHAM – 18/02/2022
Race 5 No3 FOXBORO (Nap)
Trainer: Robert Walford – Jockey: Bryan Carver
Early Du Lemo did us a good turn in landing some big bets at Plumpton on Monday, but with this coming very quick it could pay to side with the ultra consistent FOXBORO to post a deserved first win of the campaign.
Race 6 No3 MIDNIGHT COWBOY
Trainer: J Owen – Jockey: Mr R Stearn
The grey MIDNIGHT COWBOY returns from a nine month absence for this second hunter-chase outing, but really took the eye in that latest defeat by the useful Creative Inertia. He’s in good hands to do well in this area of the jumps spectrum.
KELSO – 18/02/2022
Race 2 No2 GREY SKIES (Nap)
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Brian Hughes
Former Irish pointer GREY SKIES will be very hard to beat in this if his debut success for McCain at Uttoxeter is what it says on the tin. The gelding trounced a good yardstick in Charlie’s Glance, and on that evidence should follow-up on the way to better things.
Race 3 No1 ELVIS MAIL
Trainer: Nick Alexander – Jockey: Manny McManamin
Course specialist ELVIS MAIL has needed three outings this season to brush away the cobwebs and bring him to concert pitch. The eight-year-old encounters perfect conditions on which to take out this handicap hurdle before connections consider putting him back over fences.
Race 4 No3 SOUNDS RUSSIAN
Trainer: Ruth Jefferson – Jockey: Callum Bewley
SOUNDS RUSSIAN skipped a good opportunity owing to unsuitable ground the other day. The hat-trick seeker has delivered in convincing fashion at Sedgefield and this course to suggest he could one day develop into a standard bearer for this stable to succeed the very smart Waiting Patiently.
LINGFIELD PARK – 18/02/2022
Race 5 No3 FOX POWER (Nap)
Trainer: Mike Appleby – Jockey: Frederick Larson
FOX POWER is not the first horse to score on debut for Appleby after moving to that trainer from another stable.he did that stylishly enough when returned to sand and on a first visit to Wolverhampton earlier in the month, and although meeting a couple of in-form rivals looks in a good place to go back-to-back.
Race 8 No3 ARCLECCHINO’S GIFT
Trainer: Mark Usher – Jockey: Daniel Muscutt
ARLECCHINO’S GIFT cosily too out a sprint at Lingfield before running well from his revised mark to trouble the judge at Southwell. His trainer looks to have found a suitable race for him to continue the improvement shown this year.
SOUTHWELL – 18/02/2022
Race 2 No8 SOI DAO
Trainer: Rod Millman – Jockey: Ross Coakley
Twilight Son filly SOI DAO shaped well on her second career start here, plugging on for a place on a track that didn’t favour those that stuck to the inside. If showing normal improvement she has a good shot at taking out this before going down the handicap route.
Race 8 No2 ASK PETER (Nap)
Trainer: Mark Johnston – Jockey: Franny Norton
Johnston and Norton combine for the best bet on this card, ASK PETER. The Jukebox Jury filly has earned in both starts this winter while looking for all the world as if she would benefit from the option of handicaps.
