Neil Morrice outlines his best bets and tips for Tuesday’s British meetings at Lingfield Park, Ayr and Newcastle 15/02/2022.
LINGFIELD PARK – 15/02/2022
Race 3 No9 COLONEL KEATING (Each Way)
Trainer: Richard Rowe – Jockey: Tabitha Worsley
COLONEL KEATING came back with a hard luck story after his unplaced run in the Surrey National here. Having jumped beautifully he made a shocking error at the ditch at the top of the hill which brought him to a virtual standstill. Without that uncharacteristic error his pilot felt he would have been in the money, and its reason enough to afford him another chance.
Race 4 No6 GLANCING GLORY (Nap)
Trainer: Kim Bailey – Jockey: Ciaran Gethings
Presenting mare GLANCING GLORY has arguably the best form on offer in this maiden hurdle after chasing home Miss Fairfax at Exeter. As that was only the former Irish pointer’s second outing under Rules she should have more to offer.
Race 5 No4 SHAMAN DU BERLAIS
Trainer: Kerry Lee – Jockey: Mr D McConville
This course could bring out the best in the hard pulling SHAMAN DU BERLAIS who has run well in all three starts over fences since joining his trainer. The nine-year-old has been kept to left-handed tracks and should enjoy this first visit to Lingfield. He’s in a competitive heat but might be able to obtain an uncontested lead.
Race 6 No17 CRYSTAL TIARA (Each Way)
Trainer: Sheena West – Jockey: Marc Goldstein
Even though she’s been off the course for well over a year, CRYSTAL TIARA is worth a market check.she landed one of the gambles of the year in a Leicester seller in the summer of 2019 and had issues when going jumping with her new trainer. It will be interesting to see how she goes if a recent wind operation has done the trick.
AYR – 15/02/2022
Race 2 No5 GEORDIES DREAM (Nap)
Trainer: Miss P Robson – Jockey: Brian Hughes
The Flier Begley is an interesting contender for this maiden hurdle after defecting from an engagement at Punchestown on Sunday. His chance will improve if he consents to settle, but he could find GEORDIES DREAM too hot to handle regardless of that. Geordies Dream did not impress on his debut over jumps at Newcastle but had smart bumper form previously, making him a threat to all if showing that latest effort to be all wrong.
Race 5 No2 NED TANNER
Trainer: Nick Alexander – Jockey: Sean Quinlan
Four horses clash in this handicap hurdle on the back of recent wins, but NED TANNER is the one with most scope for progression. He was having only a fifth career start when flooring Famous Bridge at Kelso, and has to be respected now switched to handicaps.
NEWCASTLE – 15/02/2022
Race 3 No4 BUNGLE BAY (Nap)
Trainer: Adrian Keatley – Jockey: Lewis Edmunds
This looks a weak maiden in which BUNGLE BAY can go well. The selection has an experience edge on his opponents, and ran creditably on his needed reappearance over course and distance last month, an exercise that should have brought him forward.
Race 5 No4 SOMEWHERE SECRET (Each Way)
Trainer: Rebecca Menzies – Jockey: Laura Coughlan
SOMEWHERE SECRET won here before Christmas and made a good fist of it against multiple scorer Tommy Taylor over course and distance last month. He doesn’t have a foe of that ability against him, as that one elects to stretch out further in the previous race, in which he can provide a pointer to my selection.
