Neil Morrice provides tips for Tuesday’s British race meetings at Ffos Las, Newcastle and Wolverhampton on 01/02/2022.
FFOS LAS -01/02/2022
Race 5 No13 KESTREL VALLEY (Each Way)
Trainer: Matt Sheppard – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies
If there’s one that can raise its game in this 18-runner handicap chase it’s one of the mares in the field KESTREL VALLEY. In her favour is that she’s been brought to the boil gradually by her trainer this season and delivered her best effort to take home a cheque over course and distance at the start of the year. She has the scope to progress from what was just her third run over fences.
Race 7 No6 SPRING MEADOW (Each Way)
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies
SPRING MEADOW is the subject of favourable reports for his debut under Rules and is worth a market check. He’s up against a couple with good form in the book, but as long as he doesn’t run green can prove more than a match for them.
NEWCASTLE 01/02/2022
Race 3 No1 BOB’S BAR
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Theo Gillard
The safest play in this novices’ hurdle is BOB’S BAR. A penalty for scoring at Hexham has helped halt his progress, but he’s done little wrong and has a capable 5lb conditional doing the steering who has ridden him the last twice.
Race 5 No1 DEDANSER (Nap)
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Brian Hughes
McCain can strike again with the consistent DEDANSER. The former Irish pointer has earned in each of his outings for the trainer, suggesting it will only be a matter of time before he opens his account under Rules. He has the additional benefit of title race leader Hughes in the irons.
Race 7 No4 CANCAN
Trainer: Nick Alexander – Jockey: Bruce Lynn
While there are several in this mares’ only hurdle with a chance, CANCAN is the most likely to run to her form. She’s developed a happy knack of troubling the judge, while her jockey did nothing wrong when second on her to Beat Box at Ayr last time.
WOLVERHAMPTON – 01/02/2022
Race 4 No6 WHITTLE LE WOODS (Nap)
Trainer: Mike Appleby – Jockey: Jason Watson
WHITTLE LE WOODS looks the way to go as the best bet on this card. He’s been heavily backed on all three starts since joining his trainer, scoring at Chelmsford in between near-misses at Newcastle and Kempton. He can make this a winning first visit to Dunstall Park.
Race 6 No10 NAGASAKI DREAM (Each Way)
Trainer: Alan Berry – Jockey: Faye McManoman
NAGASAKI DREAM earned in each of his last five outings for connections last year and returns fresh from a month’s break. He deserves a change of luck, and is carded for another earning run, if not the win.
