Neil Morrice provides tips for Thursday’s British race meetings at Bangor-On-Dee,Catterick Bridge, Newcastle and Chelmsford City on 13/01/2022.
BANGOR-ON-DEE – 13/01/2022
Race 3 No1 BARROWDALE (Nap)
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Theo Gillard
In the colours of the late Trevor Hemmings, BARROWDALE has plenty going for him and can take out this maiden hurdle on debut over jumps. The former winning Irish pointer cost his supporters when no match for Rockinastorm in a bumper here before Christmas, but can show himself to be a different proposition on this switch of disciplines, as he’s schooled well at home.
Race 4 No6 MOIDORE
Trainer: Charles Pogson – Jockey: Phillip Armson
MOIDORE has been out in the wilderness and winless for two and a half years, but the veteran signalled with an earning run in a better race than this at Wetherby last month that there could still be a tune to be played from him. His trainer looks to have found a suitable race for him to recover the winning thread.
CATTERICK BRIDGE -13/01/2022
Race 5 No2 SIDI ISMAEL (Nap)
Trainer: David Pipe – Jockey: Tom Scudamore
The Pipes uncovered a real money spinner when acquiring SIDI ISMAEL in the close season. The eight-year-old has rattled-off an impressive hat-trick in a handicap hurdle and two handicap chases. He’s delivered with plenty up his sleeve on each occasion, and it’s doubtful that the assessor has caught up with him.
Race 7 No5 ANYHARMINASKING
Trainer: Jonjo O’Neill – Jockey: Jonjo O’Neill Jnr
ANYHARMINASKING has the scope to find extra off the back of three earning efforts over hurdles since joining Jackdaw’s Castle. The Getaway five-year-old, winner of his only start in points, seems to operate on a variety of underfoot conditions and should take home another cheque of some kind.
NEWCASTLE – 13/01/2022
Race 2 No3 KAAFY
Trainer: Grant Tuer – Jockey: S James
KAAFY buckled down well for a hard fought triumph when last seen last spring at Wolverhampton. If fit for this first run in ten months he can go back-to-back in a weakly-contested heat.
Race 6 No8 STORMY OCEAN (Nap)
Trainer: Charlie Appleby – Jockey: Robert Winston
GODOLPHIN is double-handed in this novice stakes, and while any money for newcomer Blue Trail would be of interest, stablemate STORMY OCEAN already has good public form to his name, and looks the one. The Frankel colt earned in defeat at Leicester and Newmarket and has trained well on Polytrack in Newmarket.
Race 7 No1 MAWKEB
Trainer: Mike Appleby – Jockey: Frederick Larson
Shadwell cast-off MAWKEB shaped with abundant promise to be beaten in a close photo over course and distance earlier in the month. The Kitten’s Joy gelding looks another smart purchase by champion AW trainer Appleby, and if avoiding the bounce factor can go one better and open his account.
CHELMSFORD CITY – 13/01/2022
Race 4 No5 HATHLOOL (Nap)
Trainer: Mike Appleby – Jockey: Jason Watson
HATHLOOL has proved a shrewd purchase since joining Appleby as another Shadwell cast-off. The Awtaad gelding has figures of 2141, with both successes happening in all-weather handicaps. He frequently attracts market support, and can repeat his course and distance success from last November.
Race 5 No4 COPAKE (Each Way)
Trainer: Michael Herrington – Jockey: David Probert
Herrington fields a couple of interesting runners and Kodiac gelding COPAKE could find improvement now that he’s put his head in front. That happened at Wolverhampton before Christmas, signalling a big step up from anything he’d shown before. However, now that the penny has dropped there could easily be more to come.
Race 7 No10 THE GAME OF LIFE (Each Way)
Trainer: Michael Herrington – Jockey: David Probert
From a good draw three off the fence THE GAME OF LIFE looks a player in the nightcap. The key is the effect cheek pieces have had, especially when he was beaten into third in a blanket finish here last week. That was his best effort for more than a year, and a clear indication that he can go well in what look identical circumstances.
