CHELMSFORD

Race 1 – LUNAR SHADOW 7/2

LUNAR SHADOW bids for a flat hat-trick following a one-length success attempting a course and distance handicap in this grade a month ago and will go well.

Sharp Distinction scored by two lengths among this handicap company at Lingfield and will be the main danger.

Aqwaam ran well in the same Lingfield race finishing second and could go close again.

Race 3 – CARIAD 9/4

CARIAD scored by three lengths in a course and distance handicap on Saturday in this class and will be a leading contender again.

Uncle Dick has been running well including a narrow success among this handicap company two runs ago on soft going at Brighton over one mile and should go on the shortlist.

Inverlochy showed ability at Lingfield when fourth contesting a one mile handicap and could go close.

Race 4 – JEANNE D’ARC 6/4

The well-related JEANNE D’ARC looks a banker material for the Gosden team in the Join Racing TV EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes.

The daughter of Le Havre is out of a mare that has produced several winners, most notably the Royal Ascot and Listed winner Agrotera.

Jeanne D’Arc made her competitive debut at Wolverhampton a few weeks ago and was a big eyecatcher as she charged home from an uncompromising position to finish a close-up second.

With that experience under her belt, the Oisin Murphy-ridden youngster is difficult to oppose.

Race 6 – SMART DEAL 7/4

SMART DEAL indicated ability on both flat outings to date with a maiden fourth here prior to a decent fourth in a one-mile novice event at Southwell.

This looks an ideal opportunity and will be a serious player.
Groove Nation rates an interesting newcomer and is worth a market check.

Cosmos Raj placed second at Ayr two runs ago when only beaten a short-head tackling this trip and holds claims.

LINGFIELD

Race 4 – ZELLIE 15/4

ZELLIE can record an overdue victory in the BetMGM Fleur De Lys EBF Fillies’ Stakes.

The daughter of Wootton Bassett looked a potential star in the making for Andre Fabre a couple of years ago, winning four of her six juvenile starts include a Group One success in the Prix Marcel Boussac.

However, she has failed to get her head in front since that top-level triumph in the autumn of 2021, with an uninspiring three-year-old campaign leading her to being moved to John and Thady Gosden’s yard.

She made an encouraging start to life in Britain when narrowly beaten by Roman Mist in a Listed event at Goodwood in May. The winner has since plundered a Group Three prize on the continent, as has the third-placed Araminta, so the form looks strong.

Zellie has not been seen in competitive action since that neck defeat almost six months ago, but is the highest-rated filly in this field and should prove hard to beat if taking to the all-weather.

Race 5 – DIVINE JEWEL 9/2

DIVINE JEWEL is backed to make the most of having her sights lowered in the other Listed contest on the card – the BetMGM River Eden EBF Fillies’ Stakes.

Roger Varian’s four-year-old proved her liking for the track when bolting up in a handicap here last year and has this season been placed in two Listed events and a Group Three.

She is easily forgiven a below-par run in the Group Two Park Hill in testing conditions at Doncaster last time given it came only 12 days after filling the runner-up spot at Chester.

Switching back to the all-weather, Divine Jewel ought to go close.

Race 6 – SHOOT TO KILL 10/3

SHOOT TO KILL has won three times here. Was third from this mark at Kempton in latest and looks capable of another prominent showing from a decent draw.

Fellow course and distance winner Sir Oliver also holds claims. Runner-up from 1lbs lower at Chelmsford recently and might have the early speed to counter his wide barrier.

How Impressive maintains good form. Overcame a slow beginning to run second at Wolverhampton last time, but there’s still plenty of positives.

Race 9 – GOLDSMITH SP

GOLDSMITH won twice over course and distance last winter. Remains 4lbs above his most recent winning mark.

Ran third from this rating twelve days ago and is a leading contender.
Track and trip winner The Pug bids for a hat-trick after winning his past two at Southwell.

Higher in the weights however a claiming rider is booked to reduce the burden.

Shalfa was a winner on turf before placing from this mark at Chelmsford and holds solid claims.

Kentucky Kingdom found success here attempting the journey under Joe Leavy rider in August and rates a place chance.
