PREVIEW: 2023 Singapore Grand Prix

Max Verstappen took his Driver’s Championship points tally up to an all but mathematically unassailable lead to 364 points with his win in Italy.

The Dutch ace has been in spectacular form this season and is in with a shout of sealing the Drivers' Championship title in Japan should he win here and his teammate Sergio Perez fails to take any Drivers' points at the next two race weekends.

Previous Race

Max Verstappen’s unstoppable run continued with the Dutch Ace setting a new F1 record for most consecutive wins in a season as he brought his car home in first at Monza. It was an extremely profitable race for Red Bull as Verstappen’s teammate, Sergio Perez, brought his car across the line in second to secure Red Bull’s sixth 1-12 finish of the campaign.

The two drivers were joined on the podium by the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz. The Ferraris actually had a rather tdy weekend and looked nippy on track and this was drummed home by Charles LeClerc following his teammate across the line and claiming fourth.

The teammate chase continued with the twin Mercedes rounding out the top 6 positions with George Russel finishing fifth and Lewis Hamilton claiming sixth.

The rest of the top ten featured a multitude of teams with Alexander Albion bringing his Williams home in seventh, while Lando Norris claimed eighth in his McLaren and Fernado Alonso ensured Aston Martin were in the points with his ninth place finish. The final points scoring place went to Valtteri Bottas and Alpha Romeo.

Track

The Yas Marina Circuit is another one of Formula One’s favourite architect, Hermann Tilke’s, designs.

The circuit covers a total distance of 308 kilometers, with each lap equating to 5.065 kilometres and containing a staggering 23 turns.

There’s some good and bad news on the weather front with rain forecast throughout Saturday and Sunday. The upside to this, however, is that temperatures will drop off a bit which will be a relief for teams who have struggled with braking issues as the combination of Singaporean heat and the 23 turns at the Yas Marina have seen many teams’ braking systems annihilated.

Last year saw the Singapore Grand Prix return after a two-year COVID hiatus and it was a bhappy return for Sergio Perez , who claimed the race win ahead of the twin Ferraris of Charles LeClerc (second) and Carlos Sainz (third).

There’s some rain being forecast for the weekend with Saturday’s qualifying sessions currently the ones being predicted to be most affected by the rain.

Value Bet

Carlos Sainz – Podium – Yes

Not the most value in this one but the Ferraris have looked good after the break with Sainz claiming third place out in italy. My money is on him landing on the podium again.

Max Verstappen

The Dutch Ace is on fire at the minute and while he is at an extremely short price there is no sense beating against him in this form.

He is yet to win at this venue but did finish third in 2019 and second in 2018. I fully expect him to break his duck at the Marina Bay Circuit this weekend.
