Tipping Point 14-15 May 2022 covers five exciting fixtures taking place this weekend, including  the FA Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea,  and AC Milan taking on Atalanta in a must win game as they chase their first  Scudetto in 11 years.

We’re approaching the conclusion of most leagues in Europe, and I couldn’t be sadder. We’re fast approaching the wilderness, pre-season. With that in mind, there’s still a feast of football to look forward to this month.

Here’s a Tipping Point 14-15 May 2022 preview of selected games in Europe this weekend.

Saturday – Tipping Point 14-15 May 2022

Hearts 19/10 | Draw 13/5 | Rangers 23/20 (12:15) – Scottish Premiership

With the league wrapped up by Celtic, this is pretty much a dead rubber game but still worth a watch because these teams occupy second and third place. Having won 17 and drawn 10 of their games this season, Hearts will end the season pondering what could have been having they turned just half of those draws into wins. Rangers have had the same issue with draws this season having drawn eight, and lost the same number of games as Celtic; three.

Hearts have failed to register a win in their last three games taking only a single point, while Rangers kept the dream of defending their title for as long as they could, winning four of their last five games and drawing once. Two seasons ago 86 points would have been enough for them to win the league. What will give Rangers fans some solace is the fact that their team has kept a touching distance from their bitter rivals despite campaigning in the Europa League where they’ve reached the final.

Conclusion: Rangers will have one eye on the Europa League final on the 18th of March. A few key players will be rested and probably get a few minutes for match fitness. I’m backing a Hearts win or draw here.

Chelsea 12/5 | Draw 12/5 | Liverpool 11/10 (16:45) – FA Cup

All the newspaper talk in the second half of this season has been about Liverpool potentially winning the quadruple. After their draw to Spurs which I predicted last weekend, that talk has suddenly lost a bit of confidence. Now Liverpool faces a Chelsea side with a point to prove having lost their spark in 2022 amidst all the external controversy concerning the Blues. Chelsea was not so long ago the talk of town having brilliantly won the Champions League last season.

While Liverpool has only dropped once (in that Spurs game) in their last five, Chelsea has only managed to pick up two victories. Thomas Tuchel was so concerned about his team’s performances ahead of this final that he made them train on their off day, maybe more as a callout to them to bring their A-game against Liverpool.

Liverpool is one of the best teams right now and will look to ensure they win the FA Cup as a confidence booster ahead of their next final (UCL).

Conclusion: Games between Chelsea and Liverpool have been tight this year. I’m tipping a repeat of the Carabao Cup final. Draw in 90 minutes and a penalty shootout win for Chelsea this time.

Sunday – Tipping Point 14-15 May 2022

West Ham 7/1 | Draw 21/5 | Manchester City 4/11 (14:00) – Premier League

West Ham has an opportunity to spoil Manchester City’s season when they meet at the London Stadium this weekend. While historically the Hammers haven’t challenged Man City that much, this has been one of their best campaigns and they’ll be looking to secure a Europa League spot as opposed to the Conference League position they currently occupy.

Since being painfully knocked out of the UEFA Champions League Man City has responded brilliantly in the Premier League smashing five goals against Newcastle before pasting Wolves with another five in a Kevin De Bruyne masterclass. The Citizens are fully focused on wrapping up the league and have enough firepower to break West Ham’s defensive low block, even though I don’t see them scoring another five.

Conclusion: West Ham will know this is a must-win game for Man City and will seek to frustrate them with a counterattack. I’m tipping a City win with a goal total of under 3 @29/10.

Everton 11/10 | Draw 5/2 | Brentford 5/2 (16:30) – Premier League

One can’t help but feel like a win for Everton here should secure their survival in the league as it will give them a five-point cushion. Being the home side, Everton will be looking to continue on their three-game unbeaten run when they host an in-form Brentford side. The Bees have also only lost once in their last five fixtures, collecting 10 points during that run.

What will please Frank Lampard is the fact that they’re playing a team that likes having possession with a high line. This should suit the type of football Everton has been playing in recent weeks to grind out results.

Conclusion: Backed by the loud Goodison Park stadium, Everton will be fired up for this one while some Brentford players could approach this game on preseason mode already having secured Premier League football for another season. I’m tipping an Everton win.

AC Milan 77/100 | Draw 16/5 | Atalanta 3/1 (17:00) – Serie A

With the Serie A title race going down to the wire, AC Milan has another must-win game in their hands when they host Atalanta this weekend. A win here will ensure Milan is even closer to winning their first Scudetto in 11 years. They host an Atalanta side that hasn’t lost in its last four games, collecting eight points in the process in an attempt to save their season. Atalanta went from being one of the teams vying for Champions League qualification in this campaign to scrapping for a place in the Europa League.

Fortunately for them, goal difference is on their side. A win against Milan can potentially pull them up to Europa qualification but other games would have to go their way as well.

Conclusion: Milan’s comeback victory against Verona last time displayed how badly they want this Scudetto. I’m tipping a double chance here, Milan win or draw.
