16/05/2022 – Monday’s Best Bets and Tips

Neil Morrice outlines his best bets and tips for Monday’s British meetings at Carlisle, FFos Las, Redcar and Windsor on 16/05/2022.

CARLISLE – 16/05/2022

Race 3 No12 AFTER JOHN (Each Way)
Trainer: Iain Jardine – Jockey: Andrew Mullen

AFTER JOHN keeps knocking on the door and is a winner waiting to happen. He’s not the most straightforward of individuals, but now seems to have properly settled into his latest training environment, and has to be of serious interest for at least an earning run.

Race 5 No9 TOPOMANIA (Nap)
Trainer: James Horton – Jockey: PJ McDonald

TOPOMANIA ran a fine race to finish second when in need of the experience on debut for a trainer that has made an 8mmediate mark with his first runners. He’s going to be a lot more streetwise, and can open his account.

FFOS LAS – 16/05/2022

Race 1 No3 TIMBERMAN (Nap)
Trainer: Fergal O’Brien – Jockey: Paddy Brennan

TIMBERMAN embarks on a chasing campaign having been pulled out of the Swinton Hurdle at Haydock owing to the cut in the ground. He has schooled well in readiness for this new discipline, and can utilise his fine turn of foot to good effect at the business end.

Race 7 No2 MOTOWN LAKE
Trainer: Christian Williams – Jockey: Jack Tudor

MOTOWN LAKE has enjoyed a brief but successful period as a chaser resulting in a Uttoxeter success and most recently a second to Cobra Commander at Newton Abbot. His trainer re-equips him with cheek pieces, which can assist him to regain the winning thread.

LEICESTER – 16/05/2022

Race 4 No4 MING DYNASTY (Nap)
Trainer: Brian Ellison – Jockey: Ryan Sexton

Former French Group race winner MING DYNASTY has been round the block a few times and now finds himself in the basement level of the sport. But by taking out this humble seller he can show that there’s still life left in him on the racecourse.

Race 5 No4 AL AZHAR
Trainer: Marcus Tregoning – Jockey: Jim Crowley

AL AZHAR made a good start to the season when scoring on handicap debut at Goodwood. He’s done well both physically and mentally through the close season and is poised to build on that narrow triumph over Swilcan Bridge.

Race 6 No9 MAGGIE AND ME
Trainer: Roger Charlton – Jockey: Kieran Shoemark

Dukedom has had a few chances and it could therefore pay to support the only filly in the field, MAGGIE AND ME, to open her account. The daughter of TimeTest made an eye taking introduction when second on her only start as a juvenile at Sandown. Her trainer has sent out a recent filly of her age to score on its reappearance, which is a good omen for the selection.

Race 7 No5 PURE DREAMER
Trainer: Richard Hannon – Jockey: Sean Levey

PURE DREAMER readily asserted to score on his return from a lengthy absence at Lingfield. He seemed to score with more than his victory margin (one length) indicates, and will not mind switching to turf.

REDCAR – 16/05/2022

Race 2 No11 ROSE’S GIRL
Trainer: Ed Dunlop – Jockey: William Buick

ROSE’S GIRL has earned on both handicap starts at Eetherby and Newcastle, and seems just as much at home on sand or grass. She has a nice racing weight and can foil course winner Stripzee.

Race 4 No6 LEGEND OF XANADU (Nap)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: William Buick

LEGEND OF XANADU, named after the Sixties hit by Dave, Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Titch, should be fine tuned to open his account following earning runs at Pontefract and Ayr. The chestnut compromised his chance by hanging last time, but now goes to post with a significant jockey booking.

WINDSOR – 16/05/2022

Race 2 No1 BETWEENTHESTICKS
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Silvestre De Sousa

Captain Gerrard colt BETWEENTHESTICKS can play the experience card to good effect in this novice stakes. He’s well drawn to attack, and should know too much for his foes, the main threat being Panama.

Race 3 No5 RUN TO FREEDOM (Nap)
Trainer: Henry Candy – Jockey: David Probert

RUN TO FREEDOM is a sprinter worth keeping on the right side this year. The Muhaarar colt ran well to trouble the judge on his return to action and has worked well with the classy Twilight Calls subsequently.

Race 4 No8 INDIAN CREAK
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Silvestre De Sousa

INDIAN CREAK makes a swift return to the track after finishing fourth at Newbury on Friday. The Camacho gelding will not mind any further rain, and has a good record at this track.
